Aw...what the hell, might as well...
*She bit her lip briefly, trying to decide.*
"Can I...stay here? I mean...after. Like for longer?"

*That was all?*
"You can stay as long as you like," *he promised her.* "I cannot say it will always be entertaining; there are things on the horizon I won't be able to avoid, and they may be unpleasant. I have work to do in this land, work that cannot be done by another. But I should be grateful for your company, as long as you are happy and safe."

*Eden became practically luminescent. She bounced up in the hammock, pecking Figwit on the cheek.*
"You're the best!" *She squeaked, throwing her arms around his neck in a hug.*
"Beside...I don't mind workin'."
*After all, she couldn't imagine any work in Lorien that would be as much effort as that she'd already gone through.*

*Figwit laughed and held her close. Already, the burden seemed lighter.*
"I didn't say you'd be working, Eden," *he said.* "But if I have work for you, I will be sure to let you know."
*Nothing too dangerous, of course. But he knew the peril of feeling useless.*

*She looked a little suspicious, but it wasn't a bad thing. It was nice to be taken care of for a change. She just didn't want to go soft. Pops wouldn't approve.*
"I can, you know. Do stuff. I like to help."
You.

*Figwit laughed. He didn't know why, though. This was serious.*
"Well, I'll tell you; I have to take over Lorien. Not violently, I hope. But as rightful king. Not because I want to, but because... it is right. It is what I was born for. And someone must stop the humans from bringing everything down. That is my work. Do you think you can help me there?"

Oh.
*Eden straightened, as if she understood the tone of the things to come. She nodded somberly.*
"I can. And I will, if you'll have me."
*Though pressed from tiny lips, the words sounded older, more experienced. It was as if Fate had stepped in, offering Eden a place in all this, something she could contribute. Something she had been built for. Pops would be proud. And maybe that's why she'd liked Figwit so much to start with.*

*Suddenly Figwit was talking to a fellow warrior. He did not question the shift, merely stopped to respect the moment and the depth of what this tiny girl was offering, absurd as it might seem.*
"I will," *he said.* "You do me honor with your offer, Eden. I will not soon forget it."

Damn right.
*Eden straightened proudly, giving a nod of acknowledgment.*
"So...when do you plan to move?"

"It's complicated," *Figwit said.* "I shall have to time things carefully; right now, another threat lurks on the borders of Lorien, and I--with some of my people--are attempting to hold it at bay. The king and queen are being investigated. Things are in place. It is only a matter of setting them in motion. And I do not know when things will be aligned perfectly."
((Also, his suethor is slow and isn't really sure where this is going.))

((No worries. You know I'm patient.))
"I understand." *Eden nodded knowingly, sitting down next to him once again.*
"Might not be wise for me to be out and about yet anyways..."

"Perhaps not," *he said.* "If someone is actively looking for you. I need to plan. Nothing will happen right away. I'm afraid, again, it may be rather boring."

*Eden shook her head, sending gold bouncing about her face.*
"Nope, never. Not even once."
*She smiled brightly, squeezing his hand.*
"Long as I'm here with you."
*She looked at the hammock surrounding them.*
"But maybe some sleep would get time going faster."

*Figwit laughed.*
"Perhaps. It's been an long day, hasn't it."
*There was only the hammock. Figwit rose and found a blanket, an unassuming grey-green that was as soft as flower petals and as warm as one needed it to be. He tucked it around Eden.*

*Eden smiled groggily. It was strange, this being cared for. Pops had never gone for it, saying it softened you. She opened her eyes to look up to him.*
"You don't have to, you know. I've slept worse places than the floor before."
