"I haven't," he said reasonably, as if this was a perfectly reasonable question--which for him, it was. "That's not to say there aren't other dangers, but that doesn't seem to be one of them."

This was reassuring, if not entirely in keeping with what she would have expected. Maybe time travel was working after all...along with the translation field, though why it would work on French (or English, for that matter) was lost on her.
"Oh...kay, then. Well...well, maybe you could show us the best place to stay?" She paused for a moment, then frowned. "Yes, I know that. I'm going to get to it."

Kirk looked briefly around and behind her, wondering who "us" was, and who was talking. But he was too polite to ask. Not until he knew her better, anyway.
"I'll help you however I can," he said honestly. Kirk's manner was always to act as though nothing were any trouble at all. "As to lodgings, your options are expensive, private and a bit dingy, or homey but with lots of different types running around. Take your pick."

Iji's mind didn't even consider the possibility that her own world was out of touch with reality. She smiled, or at least, managed what could be described as an approximation of her old smile. "Thanks...and no, I don't mind at all being around other people." She sighed, shuddering faintly. "Yeah, I thought so, too. It's just good to be back to a normal city."

"Then I recommend Le Rouge et L'Epine," Kirk said. "I can show you there, if you want. It's not far."
He wondered if he should tell her it wasn't exactly a "normal" city. But then, who was he to dictate what was "normal" for any given society? Unless, of course, it was totally wrong, in which case he felt totally justified in realigning its priorities.

"It does sound like a nice place," murmured Iji, who hadn't slept a full night in the week or two since she'd been awakened from her "coma". "I'll honestly try anything right now."
Even if this was an unusual city (she had no idea), it was certainly better, to almost anyone, than a ruined modern cityscape.

"Let's hope you won't have to," Kirk said amiably, leading the way. "I'm James. James Kirk." To Le Rouge, whenever

"...Iji," she responded simply. She did have a surname, of course, but didn't really see how that was necessary for her anymore.
((Right, then!))

**NEW DAY. I FIND IT INCREDIBLY AMUSING WHAT HAPPENED HERE PREVIOUSLY GIVEN THE COMING SCENE**
*Micaela was dressed in her non-period finest, getting a few stares as she wound through the marketplace but not attracting too much attention. After all, this was the 'verse. They saw weirder. She spotted some nice-looking apples and began to haggle enthusiastically with the vendor in fluent French.*

James wasn't entirely sure what had just happened, but this definitely wasn't the Academy. Which wasn't necessarily a bad thing since he'd been heading for a court marshal for not accepting a fixed 'test'. At least wherever he was wasn't too bad, after all there were some good looking ladies here. Especially the red-head at what looked like a fruit stand. So he dropped a line, and immediately got slapped for his effort. "Vous porc!"

*Micaela turned mid-haggle, paid more than she had been asking for, and walked right up to the very tall, very handsome stranger. Not because he was tall or handsome, rather because she had advantageous knowledge of this Paris that she was pretty sure someone who was so clearly from the future would appreciate.*
"You're not from around here, are you." *It wasn't a question.*

"What was your first clue?" Jim asked.
((For the record he's wearing one of the red jumpers from the movie.))

"Clothes." *She said simply, looking him up and down and pointedly directing her gaze at most of the other people in the market. As it turned out, she was the only girl wearing pants, and he seemed to be the only man not wearing a cravat.*
"If that weren't enough, I have a... knack for sensing mysterious arrivals. Let me guess; post-21st-century?" *Nobody from her time period, or any she could recall, would have worn... whatever it was he was wearing.*

"23rd-century. I'm guessing I'm not there anymore. Who are you blondie?" He asked.

"It's considered good manners to introduce yourself before asking someone else their name." *She said dryly, eyebrows raising and lips pursing expectantly... but there was a hint of teasing behind her eyes.*
