"Well - " He cut off. "Not - alone," he said, giving him an almost troubled look, and pulling the scarf tighter.

"You may have one, if you like, but I probably won't have one myself."

"Oh, okay."
He tugged a bit on the scarf, then loosened it a bit, as it had become too tight.

"No, it's okay."
He took his arm again more genially.

"That's not necessary," he told him.
The utter absurdity of the situation was simultaneously settling in and becoming less apparent. He might have laughed if he didn't have Adrien's feelings to consider.

Adrien was a bit sad about the ice cream, but then, Adrian did not appear to be a great fan of ice cream. (Actually, Adrian Veidt did not seem to be a great fan of much. When he was a fan, he was an ardent one, this was true, but you couldn't eat Ancient Greece on a date, therefore it was, to Adrien's mind, lacking a certain necessary dimension.) That train of thought only reminded him that neither of them had had lunch yet in the first place.
"We should get lunch," he said, tilting his head against Adrian's shoulder.
