*Joseph didn't look happy at this prospect.*
"But Wild, the doors to God's house are open to all that seek salvation. How can you ask me to seal off those in need?"
*Anticipating her next comment, he added.*
"Not all are willing to enter seen by the eyes of the city. Sometimes it is those that are so shamed that need the most help."

*Wild sighed. He was right of course. She had slept many nights in churches when the orphanages had tossed her out and she had nowhere to stay.*
"You are right." *She admitted.
"We can't do that. I will have to find another way to protect you. I have an alternative, but for that, I need to be with you at all times. And I think that may be difficult."

"Certainly." *He answered. There were many places she could not be permitted, even under the best intentions.*
"Even if I was unavailable, they may still lash out at the parishioners. I don't know any other way to protect all of God's children."

*Wild sighed and looked away. It looked strange, a little elf girl in tightfitting pants, ditto tank top and with a black leather jacket, and the worthy priest in his cloak. The most unlikely company. And still they were having a peaceful conversation. Wild looked up at him again.*
"Why did you decide to become a priest, Father Joseph?"

*The question caught him off-guard, but if it would comfort her...*
"The Church has always been kind to me, God found me at a young age and in need. I always knew that it would be my calling to help those in need."

*Wild nodded. She would expect that much from him. She sighed. Her own heart was filled with frost, and she doubted it would ever melt. She was a Dark Elf.*
"Somehow I expected you to say that. You're the type for it. Me... I only do what pleases me. I don't have any good sides at all."

*Joseph lifted his brow. She was so young to think so.*
"I'm the type for it? Why? Because my family died and I was brought to the Church's custody?"

*Wild looked up at him, innocently, but with a glimpse of humor in her eyes.*
"No, because you are the kind of man who would never even dream of doing something wrong. You have the same face expression as the angels that are painted in the ceiling in Notre Dame!"

"Of course I would, Wild."
*He shook his head.*
"I am only a man. I am tempted as any other, even Christ. I want, long for things that should not be."
*He nodded knowingly.*
"But I chose to rise above them, to serve God and help others. That is the nature of goodness."

*Wild looked up at him.*
"It must cost you a lot of sacrifices. What do you gain for torturing yourself like that?"

*Joseph smiled.*
"It's not about gain. Well, not in a typical sense. I feel closer to God when I do his good works on Earth. I see the smiles of those I've helped. Is that not enough to justify what I do?"

*Wild looked up at him again. The humans she had met until now had been greedy bloodsuckers. Father Joseph was different. And with a light around him as if God already had chosen to bless him here on Earth. She wrapped her arms around him and hid her face against his chest.*
"I wish I could be as good as you, Father." *She said quietly.*

*Joseph laughed quietly and stroked her hair.*
"You can be, Wild. If that's what you really want."

*Wild smiled and huggled him.*
"How can I be good when there's no goodness in me? When I don't even know IF I have a soul?"

"No goodness?"
*His smile didn't fade.*
"Then why are you so worried about Anna and me and a church full of people you don't know?"
