My elders have taught me a lot!
*She came even closer. Had he changed his mind and decided she could cure his sickness? She came even closer, but couldn't see him in the darkness.*
What is a bloodsucking murderer? And what sickness are you talking about?

Your elders have taught you much? And yet you do not know Recognition when you see it in another! You do not understand how it is that I have learned your soul name?
He shifted back against the wall, ready to leap up and glide away to the deeper caverns if he needed to.
"Stay away, Lree!" His sharp accent and rich timbre rang in the dark. "I do not want to hurt you!"

So it WAS Recognition! But... but why didn't I find your soul name?
*Dewshine looked up at him with her bright blue, glittering eyes. Her soulful eyes were looking deeply into his. She didn't say a word. Her soul did all the talking.*

We Gliders...had forgotten soul names. I have only Tyldak to share--but I do not want to share it with you! It is an outrage!
He growled and pushed himself up into the black air to get away from her, gliding around the upper part of the large cavern.
But you...felt it too? You said nothing, gave no outward sign!

Why is it an outrage?
*She followed after him. Still a bit shy, but curious. He was an enigma to her. She looked up at him, blushing.*
I felt it too... But I wanted to be sure....

Tyldak continued to circle slowly in the dark, feeling her insistent presence below him though he could not see her.
Why an outrage? You are wolf-blooded, and a child! I should be Recognized to an elder, a High One, not some beast-spirited forest dweller.
He swooped down and landed some distance from her, giving a miserable groan that echoed eerily in the cave.
And you know what it means, Recognition? Have your elders told you that, little one?

*Dewshine looked up at him, but it was hard for her to see him when he moved around like that. And the darkness in the cave didn't help.*
I am not wolf-blooded. Both my parents are elves! And I am not a child. Well, almost not. But I AM growing!
*She looked at him when he landed, then she blushed.*
My elders have never told me what Recognition mean.

You ~are wolf-blooded! I can see the beast in your soul--just as you can see the High One in mine! And your tribe--I will not sire a cub which will age and die with time. It is shameful!
He hoped that the remark about creating offspring would be enough of a clue to her as to what Recognition meant, as he really did not wish to explain it to the girl.

*It was true, what he said. She could see his soul, and for her, he was the most attractive man in the world. Her heart beated faster by his words of him having cubs with her.
But the thought of what he saw in her, broke her heart. For the first time in her life, she felt ashamed of what she was. She lowered her head, with a miserable face expression. A teardrop glittered in her dark eyelashes.*
I have no wish to bring you shame. I can not accept this Recognition.

"Foolish child--one cannot choose to accept or not accept Recognition. It simply is. To fight it is death! I will accept death. Will you?"
He folded his wings in front of himself, but stayed where he was, a couple of meters from her in the dark, cold cavern.

*Dewshine looked up at him, trying to understand what he meant. What consequences would it have if she accepted death? But then again, the wolfriders lives had always been full of danger. She met his eyes without hesitation.*
"I will accept death also."
I will die anyway....

He stood firm for a few moments more before stepping forward to her, to look down on her directly. The scowl on his face softened, though she could not see it in the dark.
"Make your light, Lree."
It was not right, that such a young one should have to die...but what could he do?

*A bright light sparkled up against Dewshines slender body, and the cave was bathed in light. She looked up at Tyldak, a little shy, not knowing exactly what was going to happen next.*

The bird-elf folded his wings forward so that they were open on either side of Dewshine, but not touching her.
"You would rather accept death than shame me? Or you would rather accept death than bear my cubs?"

*Dewshine looked up at him with tears in her eyes. How could he ask a question like that? Hadn't he already made her feel like the most worthless creep on the planet? A nothing? Her eyes met his as she replied.*
"I will rather accept death that shame you." *She replied quietly.*
