"A shaman? How fascinating. What difficulties do you protect against?"

*Leetah smiled. For once she met someone who didn't run away screaming when she spoke of her magical skills. She decided she liked this girl.*
"I have many powers, but I mostly use them as a healer. I can heal wounds, cure disease and sickness, no matter how serious they are. I can also read minds, talk to animals and cast spells and curses. I protect against serious disease and illness. When someone gets ill, they send for me. I also protect the borders, with my cousin Wild, who is a shaman of Black Magic."

*Susan nodded. She knew about magic. Wizards used spells saved in books while pretending to be scientific, and witches used something closer to folk magis. Shamans sounded like the latter.*
"If you don't mind my asking, who is it you protect the borders from?"

*Leetah smiled.*
"A devilish people, so easy to summon that people are afraid of mentioning their names. They are usually referred to as THEM. They are big as dinosaurs, breaths flames, ruins everything they can get their hands on, and eat humans and elves as midnight snack if we allow them. Which, of course, we don't."

*Ah, monsters. She was starting to feel at home already.*
"Did some idiot build on top of their ancient resting place or read aloud from a damned book or something?"

*Leetah smiled.*
"These critters have been roaming the earth long before the humans arrived. When we Elves arrived to the Earth, they were our first enemies. We had to learn how to fight, and develop Black Magic to protect ourselves against them. Originally, we were a peaceful people. And you may find out that most of us are vegetarians. The animals in these forests are our friends."

*Susan raised an eyebrow*
"None of that violent struggle for survival found in nature everywhere else?"

*Leetah smiled.*
"Of course not. We Elves are very close to the nature. We are part of it. I, for instance don't like indoor life. I have a treehouse, but the forest is where I truly belong. And the nature brings us everything we need."

"I come from the city, myself. But it is very beautiful.*
Of course, there was always Grandfather's estate...no, don't think about that- you're trying to be normal.

*Leetah smiled sadly.*
"Beauty is in the eye of the beholder." *She said.* "For me, this is the most painful place on Earth. I am only here because my people needs me."

*Leetah smiled.*
"It is not your fault. But this place holds too many painful memories for me. Memories from the past, people that are dead and forgotten. Their shadows are still haunting this place."

"I...I know a bit of what you mean."
*She looked down*
"But it's not just this place for me."

*Leetah sat down beside her.*
"Do you want to talk about it?" *She asked friendly.*

*Well, why not.*
"I sometimes have these...memories of things that haven't happened yet. Not enough to be useful. I can deal with it, but sometimes it gets a bit worrying."
