Due to Lux's heightened senses, the voice traveled rather distinctly through the various brush of the forest. He came to a standstill, gazing around for the source.
And then, he saw her.
A figure of illustrious beauty, and with the gentle manner in which she plucked the flowers, surely a kind being as well.

Rainsong had no idea that someone watched her. She sang happy as a lark. Her clothes were simple, like all peasant girls clothings, and the worn out fabric gave away that her family was poor and couldn't afford to buy her pretty dresses. Still, she was happy. Her family was loving and real close to each other. She smiled broadly, looking forward to give her mother the bouquet of violets she had picked.
She danced over the meadows all the way back to her farm, without any thoughts that someone might follow after her.
The tiny farm was laying near the road. The roof was leaking when it rained, and everything witnessed about a poverty beyond belief. There were some small children playing on the outside, but they were skinny and wore ragged clothes.
When Rainsong came home, her parents came out on the stairs to meet her and give her a hug.

Lux watched from a distance, arms crossed.
It seemed that only poverty prevented the girl from becoming the woman she could be.
Dropping his arms to his side, Lux seized his sword from beside the trunk of a grand tree and slowly began his way to the farmhouse. The girl's parents caught sight of him and waved him over, ushering him in and seating him in one of their finer chairs.

Rainsong froze in fear when she noticed a dark gloomy man carrying a... a sword??? Strange, it wasn't war in Lorien now. Not yet. She shuddered. And she gasped in shock when her parents waved him over, ushering him into the house.
"Are you completely out of your mind? He is carrying a SWORD!!!"
She whispered to her mother. Her mother gave her a stern look.
"Keep your mouth shut, girl. We can't afford to get him as our enemy. Let's hear what he wants."
Rainsong kept her mouth shut as requested, but she didn't dare to look at the man.

Lux overheard her statement.
"Forgive me. Perhaps it was unwise of me to intrude upon your family's privacy...?" he asked Rainsong coldly. The mother instantly shook her head and instructed him not to think anything of it.
"I merely wished to inquire as to whether you would like some money. Seems you're in a bit of a situation here."
His eyes darted pointedly from the leaky roof to the emaciated children outside.

Rainsong shuddered by the cold voice he spoke in. She was already fearing he would expect something in return. She had heard of men like him from the other peasant girls.
But a stern look from her father made her stay silent. She stood and looked shyly down at the floor, wishing she were somewhere else.
Her father spoke to Lux.
"We are indeed in a bit of a situation here. The taxes are killing us. But we don't know what do do."
He sighed to Lux.
"Your offer will be most appreciated, but what can we offer in return?"

His eyes shifted into a strange crimson color and fixed themselves upon Rainsong.
"Your daughter," he replied without hesitation.
Rainsong's parents glanced at each other, anxiety etched into their expressions.

Rainsong gasped when she heard what Lux suggested. Her eyes were filled with fear, when she saw into his cold, emotionless face.
"What?"
Then she saw her parents faces as their gazes shifted onto her, measuring her. She could formally see dollar signs in their eyes. She stepped backwards, further into the room.
"Oh no. Nononononononono....."

A smirk ruthlessly curled one end of Lux's mouth as he awaited the fateful answer. After a suspenseful pause in which calculations were made and thoughts were flung into the air, her parents conceded reluctantly.
Rainsong's mother sighed, "All right, then. You may have Rainsong. Only promise us that you'll look after her."
Lux nodded in agreement and stood, and a large burlap sack of gold coins materialized where he had been seated. Her parents' eyes glittered with their euphoria at this sudden change of fortune.

*Rainsong looked at her parents faces in disbelief when she was sold for a sack of gold coins. Even if her eyes silently begged them not to betray her to this... BRUTE.... her parents seemed to be blind to anything but the gold.
Rainsong lowered her head and felt how her little heart was shattered into tiny pieces. While her parents' eyes glittered with euphoria, Rainsong's bright blue eyes glittered with tears. She sobbed quietly as her parents packed her few things and handed them over to Lux.*

"Thank you," he addressed her parents. "Please... enjoy the money."
Lux silently shouldered Rainsong's possessions, and laying one hand heavily upon her slight arm, he led her to the door.
"And this is where we part."
He bowed, and the family bowed accordingly in return.

Rainsong trembled in fear when Lux placed his hand on her arm, and pulled away from him. She was still sobbing, and her tears were streaming down her face. She went through the door without even LOOKING at her parents, feeling betrayed by the only persons she thought she could trust.

"What's your name, girl?" he asked, sneering. As they made their way down the path leading from the farmhouse, Lux took up a position just behind Rainsong.
His voice was terribly brittle.

Rainsong froze in fear when he sneered at her. They were far away from the farmhouse now, and even if they had been closer, she couldn't go back. Not after her parents had betrayed her like this. Her shoulders sank, and her tiny body trembled in fear. Her tears kept streaming down her cheeks, and her lower lip quivered.
"Rainsong."
She finally managed to whisper. Even her whispering voice was trembling in fear. She didn't dare to ask for his name. And she didn't know if she wanted to know. She was terrified by the thoughts of the future, if she had one. She feared for her life. She had no idea what he wanted with her, or where he was taking her. If he was planning on taking her anywhere.

Lux had never been one able to withstand the sight of tears. He tore his gaze away from the girl, seemingly affected by her show of misery and fear.
"Here," he said, thrusting a shimmery blue-grey handkerchief into her hands.
