"Oh that" he laughed "liiike I said I don't get all hairy and icky, which means I also don't grow. I stay basically the same size only-" he placed a finger to his lip and shh'd, his eyes suddenly turned yellow and his teeth grew. ((LIKE IN THIS PHOTO! ![](http://img210.imageshack.us/img210/471/wolf8gr0.jpg) I can't help it, I have so many of them, I must share them with the world!))

Pan curled into a ball on the ground behind Lyra's feet, his fox tail covering part of his face, but Lyra just stood with rapt attention.
"That's cool!" she exclaimed. "I wish I could do that." It would scare her friends--and those Gyptians down by the river--out of their wits.

"Oh it's cool all right, until you want to lash in to everything around you, uh huh, cool" he giggled "of course not many people think like you, in the nine kingdoms, people like me were burned at the stake."

"That's awful," she said. "But I en't like most people." She grinned. "And I'm all alone here--no one else here has a daemon. So we're both diff'rent."

"I guess we are, birds of a feather, so to speak, heh" he tapped his fingers together "so... where shall we go?"

Lyra wrinkled her nose at his joke.
"Dunno," she said. "I was staying with these people, but I got bored. But I guess there's a whole city, en't there?"

"Well were kind of far from Paris now" he looked around "well not that far, it's less than half a days walk. You know whats funny, this place is so close to Paris, but when you're in the city, you can't see it. Must be elven magic" he shrugged his shoulders "shall we then?"

Lyra looked around. Come to think of it, that was kinda funny. But the woods didn't impress her much. She wasn't used to all this nature.
"Okay," she said cheerfully. "I can walk all day if I have to."

"I don't think we'll have to" he smiled and began walking back toward the city.
He could smell it, it was as powerful as death.
It made his nose twitch.

Lyra walked along cheerfully at his side. She liked this strange man. He was different. He wasn't dry and old like the masters, or talk down to her like... well, every adult she'd ever known.
Pan wasn't so sure, but Pan always worried more than she did.

Wolf smiled and looked up at the sun.
He was worried that he had got himself in to another contract, with another evil queen, but he couldn't help but feel connected to her. He knew it was magic, but he couldn't resist it.
((Where to now? I need to get him a room at the inn, simply because it's the kind of place he would stay in. But we could go somewhere else first.))

((I'm not partial. I don't have any plan for her, unfortunately. In the book she's all wily and chosen-oney but I don't know where to go with that.))

*NEW DAY*
Lux trudged along the worn and dusty pathway in the forest, balancing his gleaming sword over one shoulder. It was his most prized possession, that sword, and perhaps, his one love.

The little peasant girl Rainsong was out picking flowers for the dinner table. She wore a cape made of straw on her golden curls, to protect herself from the sun. Her bright blue eyes were glittering in the sunlight, and her slender body was moving graceful along while she picked the flowers one by one. She sang a little song while she was working, and her beautiful voice echoed over the green meadows.
"Home is behind The world ahead And there are many paths to tread Through shadow To the edge of night Until the stars are all alight Mist and shadow Cloud and shade All shall fade All shall fade"
