*Malefica looked over at her husband. She wished that she could do something to help him.*
"How do you know that this time is different?" *She asked mildly?* "How do you know that she is not just out hunting this time. Has something happened between you, that would cause her to leave?"
*Malefica could not imagine why anyone would leave Vladislaus. He was always so gentle, and more caring than she had the right to hope for. She was completely happy with him. If she wasn't slowly dying from this mysterious disease, she would have stayed with him forever. She sighed deeply, and her eyes saddened.*
If Lucille left you willingly, she doesn't understand how lucky she is, having a husband like you. And I, who don't want to leave, will be fading away from you... slowly, until my lifelight burns out. It is not fair.....
*The tears were burning behind her eyelids, and she had to force herself not to cry.*

*Dracula could sense her imminent tears, but he could not relate to them.*
"I found her hunting. That is how I was able to uncover what has happened." Mostly.
"She made it clear that she would not be returning to this place."

*Malefica looked up at him, confused.*
"Not... returning? But... but why? What has happened?"

*Dracula's eyes shut in frustration.*
"Because she is no longer herself. She is...this Lucy person. Why does this confuse you?"

"Because I cannot for my bare life imagine why anyone would want to leave you."
*Malefica replied innocently, looking lovingly up at her husband.*
"Is there no way to trace her, and get her to drink the potion, so she will become herself again?"

"But you can't assure me she will." *Dracula rebutted, turning sharply as he paced.*
"You are asking me to...force her and with all potential that it will destroy Lucille and leave her eternally Lucy."

*Malefica looked over at him and shrugged.*
"Playing with Mother Nature by mixing potions, is always a risk to take. But sometimes courage can be rewarded. The potential that Lucille will be destroyed is indeed present. But there also might be a chance that Lucy might be destroyed and she will be eternally Lucille. That is out of my control. I can not control which of those two souls who will receive the potion through the body by drinking it."

"That is not true." *Dracula answered simply.*
"Somewhere there is a man. One that can create a potion without such risks. But I do not know where to find him. Or even his name." *His hands clenched in frustration.*

*Malefica looked up at her husband.*
"Vladislaus, playing with Mother Nature is always a risk. Sooner or later you will have to pay if you screw things up and ruin the plans God has intended for us. This is how the magic works. With such powers, you are allowed to do a lot that is denied to common mortals. But sooner or later there will be a price to pay for the power you get. I am a witch, Vladislaus. I know such things."

*Dracula spun on her.*
"And you think I do not?!" *He snarled.*
"I am cursed by your beloved God to walk only in darkness, to sire the dead, to drink the blood of his sweet children and you are honestly going to sit there and lecture me on the nature of consequences?"

*Malefica looked up at him, in mild surprise.*
"Vladislaus. Have I ever accused you of stupidity? I don't see why you snarl at me. I was just telling you that I can make you a potion, but that there is a risk to take. Drinking magical potions will always be a risk for the person who drinks it. Because that person can not know in advance what the effect of the potion will be, or if the effect can be cured if it backfires."
*She sighed.*
"Is it so wrong of me to want to help you when I see you suffer?"

*Dracula frowned in frustration.*
"I snarl because in one night I have learned I must sacrifice two brides. I am unhappy and you talk to me like I am a child that does not understand the ways of the world. I have seen much in my days as well, Malefica. One does not have to be a witch to know such things."

*Malefica looked over at her husband with warmth in her eyes. Her voice was mild. She wanted to take him in her arms and give him a hug, but she knew it was impossible. She spoke mildly to him.*
"I am sorry, Vladislaus. It must be hard for you. If I knew how to make you happy, I would. I don't see you as a child, Vladislaus. I would never have married a child, I can assure you. When you told me about the man making potions without risks, you hurt my professional pride as a witch. I spend hours making potions to help people. They come from all over the world to get help to solve their problems. I have done what I could to help, and they have never complained."

*Dracula paused, trying to understand.*
"Your...pride?" *He shook his head in disbelief, turning towards the window.*
"You are a strange woman. I do not think I shall ever understand you."

*Malefica chuckled with laughter, even though a sting of pain pierced her heart by the thought of how little time she had left to live.*
"You don't have very much time left to learn to understand me, I'm afraid. But yes, I have my pride, as anyone else. Even if I only am a bastard child born and raised in Hell."
