*Malefica looked at her husband. She still remembered how he had got burned by her touch... The hissing sound of burned skin awoke half forgotten memories... From the time she was with Icarus... She looked over at her husband again.*
"Icarus too got burned when I touched him... I don't remember exactly when it started, but at least after he became a demon. He was a sorcerer when I met him. And when Gawain was born, he started screaming every time Icarus touched him."
*She looked up at him sadly.*
"I don't dare to think what would happen if you came near The Grail.... Only, the Grail isn't a relic, Vladislaus. I don't want you to get hurt."

Not a relic?
*Dracula's confusion did not lessen.*
"If you are so worried for my wellbeing, why did you ask this of me? How could you possibly expect me to protect it without being near it?"

*Malefica sighed. She could understand her husband's confusion. If he should protect the Grail, he had to know what it was. And she had to trust him at some point. He was after all her husband. So she looked up at him, and for the first time in her life, she trusted someone that was not already a guardian.*
"The Holy Grail can move around by itself, Vladislaus. You see.... the Holy Grail is not a cup. Not a relic. Or anything else that can be locked in a box and put on display. The Holy Grail is a child."
*She looked up at him.*
"I have fostered her since her earliest childhood. I have been the only mother she has known. Do you now understand my concern from dying, my worries for her future? Do you now understand why I am grieving so deeply that nobody can take over my duty as her protector?"

*Dracula blinked, taking in the unexpected information.*
"But..." *He started slowly.* "That doesn't answer my questions. Whether it is a cup or a child, what good can I do if I cannot abide its presence?"

*Malefica nodded sadly.*
"I know, my dear. I don't want you to get in harm's way. I love you too much to want to see you hurt. I will have to think of something else. I just wanted to explain to you. I don't want to keep any secrets from you. After all, I am your wife. At least for the time I have left to live. I want to be a good wife for you Vladislaus."

"You are a fine wife." *Dracula answered easily.* "At least, as well as you can be, given the situation."

*Malefica smiled and looked over at him.*
"Thank you. I only wish I could give you more than I do. All I have to give you now, is my unconditioned love, my admiration, my devotion, my heart and my soul. If I only could give you my body as well, and another child...."

*Dracula's gaze fell.*
"You did what you had to for your son. I do not begrudge you for it."

*Malefica looked up at her husband again.*
"There are so many things I would have done for you... if I only could..."
*Then she remembered how worried he had looked before she had told him his trouble.*
"Enough about me. Your turn to tell your problems and my turn to listen."

*Dracula shook his head forlornly.*
"It is merely...it would appear that you are not the only bride I am to lose."

*Malefica looked up at her husband in despair. She didn't want to die from him, she couldn't. She loved him so much... Her heart ached in pain for him.*
"Oh no. Have any other of your wives become ill as well? Who? And how?"
*Her beautiful eyes were filled with tears of compassion.*

*Dracula lifted a hand as if to stop her.*
"Do not cry for her. Lucille...has a condition. Apparently she is not who she claimed to be."

*Malefica looked up at her husband. Now it was her turn to look confused.*
"Lucille? A condition? What has happened? Please, tell me everything."

*Dracula shrugged.*
"Apparently there is a potion that makes her what she is. Was. Now once again she is this...Lucy. And not at all herself."

*Malefica's eyes became distant as she heard about the potion her husband told her about. She had heard about potions like this, in other times, with other people, but the potion was the same...*
"Elaine....." *She whispered.* "From the legends about King Arthur. She fell in love with Sir Lancelot, but he refused her because he was in love with Queen Guinevere. In despair Elaine drank a potion, who turned her into a copy of Queen Guinevere. She went to Sir Lancelot's room, and he made love with her. Later she bore him a son. When Lancelot found out, he was furious, and he never forgave her."
((This story can be read in the numerous legends of King Arthur.))
