((5am, damn my eyes, that's Daft-O'Clock!))
"Charmed, as I say, ma'am," says Flashman with a click of the heels and another glint in the eye. "Your servant, I assure you."
Lucy, eh, knew a Lucy in the Haymarket. Fine girl, Irish, red hair, bad temper. Bloody awful wicket keeper in that game of Brothel Cricket I organised. Put an orange through the window and got me dragged out by the bouncers. Nasty business. Good rattle though. Wonder if this one likes sport.
"Can I offer you some refreshment ma'am, the air's a little dry in here I find?"

*Valmont had greeted Lucy quietly, his own prized glint in evidence, and sat back to watch Flashman's performance. Like a cockerel he was, all puffed up and strutting. War hero he may be--in public--but Valmont hadn't lived this long without learning to read the signs in others.
Still... it was a damned nuisance, Harry getting to her first. She looked well worth the pursuit. And if Rochester had put her through her paces already...*
"Must be the only thing that is," *Valmont muttered.*

"Wonder if you'd do me the signal honour," Flashman went on, to Lucy, "Of throwing me dice for me? I can just somehow tell you're a lucky influence."
And your luck could be in tonight you lissome wriggler, if you play your cards right. A little touch of Flashy in the night, as the bard would have put it. Cure you of the taste for Frog once and for all when you've got a taste of good English beef.
"Do say you will, I'm sure it will be fun,"

*She could tell this was going to be a lovely evening, just the distraction she needed. Either of the men would be fun- or both, if she could maneuver that.*
"I'm very flattered."
*She took the dice, rolling a perfect score*

Flashman laughed delightedly,
"Shabash Mem'sahib!" he said happily - "Sorry, mean's 'bravo ma'am!' - you'll have to forgive me I hope, spent a lot of time in the Punjab, and the Afghani border. Sometimes relapse into the lingo. Deuced good roll!"
He nodded and had the dice passed back to him.
"I'm sure you wouldn't mind playing a little more, eh?"
He put the dice back in Lucy's hand, letting his fingertips linger against hers just a little while looking her in the eye and letting a little of his intent show.

((This would be so much easier if I remembered what game they were playing...))
*He certainly was a charmer, she could tell that much. Blustery, but experienced. She playfully pouted at him*
"Oh, but I would be barging in on your group- I wouldn't want to spoil anyone's time."
*Her smooth tone of voice easily included all three of the libertines in flirtation*

((Must not have Lucy show up with an entourage.))

"Nonsense," said Flashman heartily, and gave her a dazzling smile, "I think you can trust me when I say you couldn't spoil our fun no matter what you did. And bargin' in? Not a word of it, won't have it! Why we're inviting you to join us, ain't we fellows? Besides.."
He gave her a wink
"..if you don't feel like playing, why I might not be as lucky as I deserve to be tonight."
He glanced down at the dice in her palm so she *could* pretend he was talking about gambling if she chose.

"She's absolutely welcome," *Valmont said smoothly, glancing at Rochester without seeming to take his eyes off Lucy.* "She seems a very lucky lady."
For some, anyway.
*As insurance, he retrieved another of whatever Lucy was drinking and had it in her hand before she could think to replace it. Beyond that, he really didn't care to compete directly. There were women aplenty.*

((If you still need to know, it's craps.))
*Rochester watched them in their own method, hunting and baiting. Did he look like that when he worked? It seemed rather odd. And in truth he'd very much enjoyed her...company, but perhaps she was a bit out of the league that he was looking for this evening. And besides, bets were already being placed on that horse. Best to look elsewhere. He smiled and nodded jovially, but his eyes kept wandering.*

*Valmont caught Rochester's eye. Flashman was much louder than they were, habitually, in their pursuits, and he had no real anticipation of winning this one.*
"Too rich, eh?" *he murmured.* "Not your gamble?"

Such bravery is certainly worthy of...appreciation."

Oho, Flashy, this one's already under starter's orders if I'm any judge.
"Oh I don't hold with all this hero talk, ma'am, I was just saying to these other fellows a moment ago," he nodded modestly, "Just doing my job you see, but I flatter myself I did the best I could."
He smiled, and again allowed just a hint of the scoundrel to show - just enough that a kindred spirit would recognise it and draw conclusions about dark and ruthless deeds done when called for.
"I apply the same philosophy to everything I do ma'am. If there's a duty to be done, well Flashman ain't the type to leave a job half done."
The glint in his eye was intended to convey just how far reaching he considered his attention to detail to be.
We'll have you singing 'Rule Britannia' before the night's out you prize piece you, he thought happily.

"So I would imagine."
*She couldn't help liking him, despite his complete incincerity. There was a certain bravado he posessed that was really quite charming.*
"I also imagine that an army man would have seen a good deal of the world. That he might be-"
*She smiled coyly*
"Experienced?"

Marvellous wench! She'll be hollering 'Roger' at the ceiling before midnight if I'm any judge. And I am.
"Experienced?" said Flashy with a quizzical look, "Well I suppose so... to be honest I've seen action under some of the finest you know. Served in some of the hottest places you can imagine. And I hope I've always given of my best."
A grin, just for her view, that was entirely scoundrel, dropping the pretense just for a second since she was obviously playing the game with her eyes open.
"It's my calling, d'ye see? Flashy never fails."
