*Though Lisette had told Manon that she wasn't much of a green thumb, she still liked working with the amaranth. While they were not considered the most beautiful of blooms, the amaranth had a certain something about them that made you take notice. Their colors were certainly lovely, and though their form wasn't entirely pleasing they had a certain charm.
Lisette loved them for all those reasons, but also for what they symbolized. Endless. Everlasting. Forever.
She hummed quietly to herself as she gently clipped back some of them*

*Marius knew he'd find her here. For as long as he could remember, he could recall that this was the one place she retreated to when something bothered her. She'd run to it often enough when they children (and even more often when they were teenagers) that it had almost become a joke to the other servants.
He knew something was bothering her--after watching the way she'd been behaving lately, it was quite evident. He cleared throat loudly to catch her attention*

*Lisette made a little "eep" sound, dropping her gardening clippers as she turned around to see who it was. At the sight of the master of the house, a blush appeared in her cheeks*
"Marius! Er, I mean, sir...I mean--"

*He chuckled*
"Lisette, it's all right--you can call me Marius. Lord knows I've been Marius all through our childhood and even beyond. You don't have to start being formal now."

*Her blush deepened*
"Oh, of course, si--Marius."
*To distract herself, she bent down and picked up the clippers*
"Was there something I could do for you?"

"Are you all right, Lisette? You've seemed a bit out of sorts lately." He began without preamble.

*Her eyes widened a bit, and she had to resist the urge to fiddle with the clippers to distract herself*
"Oh, no, I'm fine sir--I mean Marius. I'm sorry if I haven't been behaving right to you or the missus."

"Lisette," he said gently. "You don't have to be evasive with me. We practically grew up together. Please, if something is bothering you--tell me?"

*She wavered. On one hand, she badly wanted to tell him how she really felt. It would be so wonderful if she could finally get it all off her chest and out in the open. But on the other, it could very well just make things worse if he knew.
She bit her lip, trying to fight back tears*
"I want more than anything to tell you, Marius. But if I do...it'll ruin everything. I don't want to do that."

*She looked so anguished that his heart went out to her. It also worried him--what could she possibly be going through that it affected her so?
He moved as though to take her hand, but stopped, recalling his mother's words about the help. But, surely...
Sighing, he stayed put*
"Whatever it is, Lisette, I promise it won't have that effect."

*The move he made wasn't lost on her, and it was the catalyst that finally caused her flood of tears to come loose.
She started crying*
"I can't, I can't..."
*She turned away from him, her tears falling on the amaranth*

*Without thinking, he took Lisette by the hand and pulled her into his arms, letting her cry on his shoulder*
"Shhh...you can, you can...tell me..."

*For a few moments, she was too shocked by the fact that he was HUGGING her to react. Then, she melted against him, almost not believing this was happening. She was in his embrace at laaaaast arms.
After a moment, she regained her composure and stood back, away from him. She didn't want to break the contact, but she had to*
"Th-thank you."

"Lisette," his voice was gently teasing. "You didn't answer me."
