*Norman and Maria came to a stop outside the hotel, not having to catch their breath.*
"Search each room?" *he asked.*

*She had her head tilted to one side, as though listening to the occupants of the rooms. And perhaps, she was*
"Yes. See what we can find. Even if we don't uncover Holmes or Irene, we may find someone who knows them."

*Norman grinned and nodded.*
"They can't be too anonymous," *he said.* "Let's go."

*She had to hold back a chuckle, and instead opted for grinning as she approached the nearest door. She concentrated, want to make it unlock itself, and instead wound up accomplishing something unexpected--she turned into mist.
It was extremely disorienting, and startling enough that it only last for a few moments before she was back to herself, standing in front of the door still and blinking in confusion*
"That...was a pleasant surprise."

"You... Can you do that again?"

*She was staring at her own hands, as though not quite believing what they'd just become*
"I...don't know. I was only trying to unlock the door with my mind."

*Norman reached out and touched her hands, as if to prove they were indeed solid.*
"Something tells me you won't need doors anymore," *he said.* "Teach me."

*She glanced from her hands to the door and back again*
"Well..."
*It was like what it was said Dracula could do--could she also turn into a wolf, or something else like that?*
One thing at a time.
"I think...you have to concentrate all of your mind on it. I did it by accident, but maybe if you purposely try to it comes easier."

*Norman nodded. He was new at this. But they were getting sidetracked.*
"I'm sorry. We are here to find Irene; should we experiment later?"

*She nodded after some thought*
"I'm all for theatrics, but we can do that some other time."
*This time, she got the door to unlock itself and slipped inside. The room was unoccupied, however, and she moved on to the next*

*Norman followed her, but then he figured he should find out if he had the same abilities. He should, he reasoned. Perhaps upstairs... He thought hard, trying to figure out whatever it was she'd done to pick the lock--
--and was suddenly looking down on her from above. She looked funny, too. Black and white, actually. And now that he thought about it, there was a whooshing sound and air moving about him and--
--he plummeted to the ground, not realizing that for a moment, there, he'd been a raven.*

"What just happened?"

*Something dug into Norman scalp, and he pulled the feather out, frowning slightly at it.*
"I think I turned into a bird," *he said. He looked confusedly at Maria.* "I thought vampires became bats, or wolves, or something."

*She frowned*
"I thought so, too. Perhaps there are other forms we don't know about."
*She made a mental note to find a library and a book on vampires at the first opportunity.*

*Or perhaps it was native to the personality of the vampire undergoing the transformation, Norman thought.*
"Hardly useful at the moment," *he muttered. This time, he succeeded in picking the lock, and they continued through the rooms of the hotel.
At one point, they hit Valmont's. The man looked up from a book with an irritated sneer.*
"I didn't order room service."
*He eyed Maria.*
"Unless she's on the menu."
