((Yeah, I heard it. Bonnie-Marie's just being her usual jumpy self.))
"Oh yes, thank you." She followed Scarlett into the parlour, carefully setting her suitcase down next to a chair but waiting for Scarlett to sit before she did.

*Well. At least she had manners, if she didn't have clothes. Not that Scarlett could talk, all wrapped in black. She sat.*
"So where are you from, Miss de Chagny?"

Bonnie-Marie sat, removing her cloack and folding it delicately in her lap.
"Please call me Bonnie-Marie. I just arrived from the Opera Populaire. I've been living there - and working as a dancer there - for over a year now."
She glanced around quickly, moving only her eyes. She was overwhelmed by the entire situation and wanted to familiarize herself with her surrounds, but afraid she would seem rude if she did so much as move her head away from her hostess.

*Mannered, but scared. Hmm. Scarlett was half shocked and half violently curious.*
A dancer?
"You don't say!" *she said sweetly.* "Why, that must be so excitin'!"

Bonnie-Marie immediately reverted all her attention to Scarlett.
"Dancing? Yes, it's very exciting, and wonderful." There was a long pause as she twisted her hands around her cloak nervously. "Um...what do you do?" She blushed even as she asked the question.

*Scarlett's eyes widened. She felt... something like pity. Or what Scarlett would have called pity, if forced to name it. It hardly resembled pity in normal humans.*
"Do?" *she echoed.* "Why... I'm a lady."

Bonnie-Marie coughed wildly, as if to express that she often spouted embarrassing questions when she was suffering a bad chest cold.
"Of course, of course! I just. Well." She paused, cleared her throat a bit too loudly. She went on, attempting to sound even and controlled and failing miserably. "How long have you been here, Mademoiselle Hamilton?" Her voice squeaked and broke.

*Goodness. The little thing was more spooked than a cat in a rocking chair factory.*
"Please, call me Miss Scarlett," *she told her sweetly.* "Only a few weeks. My husband died--in The War--and I was sent here to... recover."

"Oh my goodness, I'm so sorry!" Bonnie-Marie had no idea what war Miss Scarlett was referring to, but that had no bearing on how horrible this revelation was.

*Scarlett dabbed her eye with a lace-trimmed hankie.*
"Ah thank you for your sympathy," *she said.* "But life goes on, doesn't it?"
*She smiled bravely.*
"Ah feel so much better, just being among family and new friends."

Bonnie-Marie nodded and remained silent for a moment, unsure of how best to respond to this. She considered reflecting upon some of her own tragedies as a way of bonding with Miss Scarlett, but decided that would seem distasteful.
After what she felt was a respectful length of time, she asked, "So, are you related to the de Chagnys somehow, or are your families friends?"

*Scarlett had been getting bored during the pause.*
"My mother is Aunt Heloise's sister," *she said.* "But she married an Irishman and moved to America."
*Her tone dared Bonnie-Marie to take objection to a Frenchwoman marrying an Irishman.*

The idea of the marriage being improper never even occurred to Bonnie-Marie. "America? Wow, that must have been exciting! I've never done any travelling."

"I was born there, so... Until now, I hadn't gone further than Savannah."

"That sounds like me, except I've been in and around Paris my whole life. I'd never even really left my house until--" She stopped, realizing this line of conversation would lead to things she didn't particularly care to discuss. "Well, I like being in Paris. I would like to see the world, but I don't know if I could...handle it."
