*Wild felt stronger now, after the tea. She tried to sit up and look at him.*
"The creature. Did it pass the border to Lorien?"
*There was a slight hint of anxiety in her voice, even though she tried to hide it. Then she relaxed and smiled warmly to him.*
"You have saved my life, Figwit. Not only once, but three times in the forest. I owe you thanks. How can I ever repay you?"

"No," *he said tightly.* "The old trees have listened to me; they will keep it out as long as they are able. But their magic is not the magic of the mages. It is defensive. It will not last forever."
*He smiled at her grimly.*
"I believe I should count that as one life-saving," *he said,* "as it happened all together. Your life being spared is repayment enough."

"You have really impressive skills there, Figwit. Don't underestimate yourself. By age, I am sure you will become really powerful. I am not easily impressed, but you managed to impress me."
*Wild looked up at him, smiling warmly.*
"My magic doesn't last forever either. So I have to renew the spells sometimes, with some variations. But Black Magic can be really powerful anyway. I know spells that can help, and spells that can do harm. All of them very powerful. I have a strong soul, and I control strong forces. If you ever need my magic, I will assist you. That will be my thanks to you."

"Thank you, Wild. I may indeed call upon you, in the times ahead. I fear they will be hard."

*Wild got a distant look in her eyes. She had a bad feeling about the times ahead. But she was prepared to face the dangers. As a Dark Elf, fear was a feeling she didn't know.*
"They will be hard, Figwit."
*She replied in a dreaming voice.*
"Much harder than you can imagine...."

*Figwit grimaced.*
"You forget, Wild; I was raised for this. But what do you see?"

*Wild closed her eyes, allowing the visions to come. They were not pleasant, and she shuddered.*
"A banquet inside the castle. Something creepy about the food or drink.... poison? Someone will die. And the madness will get worse. Much worse. I see increasing taxes, hunger, unbearable suffering. Prisons, gallows. Death, everywhere death. A possible civil war..."
*She opened her eyes and looked at him, sadly.*
"I am sorry, Figwit. That is all I can see at the moment. Not a very bright future, is it? I will do anything in my power to assist you."

"But how can it be? How could things get to that?"
What is wrong with the Elves?
"It's all so unnecessary," *he said bitterly.* "Do you know when the banquet is?"

"The world is evil and corrupt, Figwit. The sooner you learn that, the bigger are your chances to defend yourself... and survive."
*She looked at him.*
"As for the banquet, I know this will happen very soon. But talk to Nessa. She is the one living and working in the castle. If anyone can get you in there, it's her. I am just a shaman of Black Magic."

*Figwit shook his head.*
"My world is not evil and corrupt. For me to believe that, I must also believe there is no hope. No choice. And I cannot. Otherwise why not lay down and fade away where one stands?"
*He focused back on her.*
"How are you feeling?"

*Wildfeather smiled and stroke his cheek gently.*
"You would say that of course. You are a Light Elf. We Dark Elves have a different point of view. But we don't lay down and fade away. We fight."
*She looked up at him with a smile.*
"I admit my body still feels a little sore, after the unfortunate meeting with the rock, but your healing helped a lot. Thank you. Did you learn that from Leetah?"

*Figwit shook his head.*
"Being her son may have helped. But I learned everything from my teachers where I grew up. I was provided with every sort of training you can imagine. I have spent my life preparing for every eventuality."

*Wildfeather's dark, beautiful eyes sparkled. She loved learning about new places.*
"Where did you grow up, Figwit? I don't think your mother ever mentioned that to me. And I really look forward to get to know you better, and see what you have learned from your teachers. Am I very wrong if I guess that Leetah's friend Malefica was one of them?"

"She was not," *Figwit said.* "It was too dangerous to allow for much traveling between worlds--the current danger on the border is proof of that. I was raised by beings like us, but not. It is difficult to translate into this language. It is a harsher world than this, but the conditions were necessary to my training and I was in less danger there because I was unknown."
*He gazed out at the forest surrounding them.*
"In comparison, Lorien is a paradise. But a troubled one."

*Wild smiled to him.*
"Paradise is something I am cut off from. Being a Dark Elf means being cut off from mercy. My parents got killed when I was 11, and I was raised in the worst orphanages in all of Paris. I learned to know humans by their worst side. That is why I hate them so much."
*She looked out of the window.*
"But I agree that Lorien is beautiful. Well worth to die for."
*There was something lost in her voice, as if she had no hope of survival, nothing to live for.*
