((Good lord, so sorry Darcy))
*Today, Therese answered the door. Not that there wasn't anyone around to do so, merely that she liked attending to these simple things herself. It was rather silly, making one of the housekeepers do it.
For a brief moment, she didn't recognize the man on the other side, but then she gave him a friendly smile*
"Why...Mr. Darcy, what a pleasant surprise! We weren't expecting anyone today."

*Darcy inclined his head.*
"My apologies, Madame. My card must have gone astray. I can return at a later date, if it would be more convenient."

"Oh, no, it's not a worry. We've had so few visitors, I'd started to wonder if perhaps we'd been forgotten."
*She stepped to one side*
"Please, won't you come in?"

"Thank you."
*Darcy entered.*
"Not forgotten, certainly," *he said with a smile. Though in truth, there was something mysterious surrounding the family that perhaps had kept people hesitant about visiting. Darcy was not about to let that stop him, however. Not without proof something was actually amiss.*
"How is your family, Madame?"

"We are managing, good sir." She said, closing the door behind him.
"We're still recovering from recent tragedy, but my family is a strong one." She said quietly.

"I'm sorry to hear that," *he said.* "Marius has always been a good friend."

*She smiled sadly, recalling how her son, so like his father, seemed able to befriend almost everyone he met*
"His father, my husband, passed on." She said quietly.
"I appreciate the sympathy. It helps, to have friends."

*Darcy inclined his head.*
"I am very sorry indeed to hear that. My father spoke highly of your husband."

"Thank you. He spoke highly of your father, as well. I recall they didn't meet more than a few times, but both seemed to have left quite an impression upon each other."
She'd never met Mr. Darcy's parents, having missed them almost every time they'd come calling, by incredible happenstance. She only really knew of them from things her husband had said.

*Darcy nodded.*
"Thank you for your kind words," *he said.* "He is much missed. And Marius, is he well?"
((I'm actually just waiting for him to meet Anne again... I'm not really sure what to do here.))

((Ah, cool. Will bump Emily about Anne/Darcy-ness))
*She smiled, a bit less sadly*
"He's doing quite well, thank you. His wife and children are wonderful, and I'm so happy that he has the family he always wanted."

*Anne hurried through the foyer, a pile of books clutched to her chest and a bit behind schedule if the truth were known. She barely glanced up at Darcy and the Pontmercy matriarch, but then she glanced again, stumbled, and dropped everything.*

*On instinct, Darcy dropped to his knees and began picking up the books. It wasn't until he looked up to hand several of them to her that it registered that she was known to him. The affronted look on her face would have made another man smile outwardly, but Darcy was not accustomed to displaying his emotions like a book to be read.*
"Mademoiselle," *he said by way of acknowledgment.*

"Sir." *she replied as she took the last of the books he held out to her, standing once more with a curt nod out of elementary good breeding, nothing more.*
