*Alex quirked a grin.*
"I'm not a big fan of overwork in general," *she said. She glanced through the file, and the letters she could read were glowing with praise. Besides--she liked his genial manner. She could listen to him and not feel put upon.*
"I say it's a deal, Signor Pavarotti."

*He smiled.*
"Then we are to be maestro and pupil. Tuesdays and Fridays--are these free for you?"

"Yes, quite. I look forward to it, maestro."

*Pavarotti smiled and extended a large hand.*
"Until tuesday, then, Alex."

"Prego, prego. Is not a problem in the slightest. I shall be delighted to be teaching a new pupil--especially one with so rare a voice." *He said, shaking the hand with a very firm grip, suited to such a large man--probably one of the only things about him suited to his size.*

*An eyebrow raised at the un-looked for compliment, Alex smiled, and took her leave.*

**NEW DAY. HEY, HOW ABOUT TUESDAY?**
*Alex tripped up the stairs with a lightness which belied her treacherous nerves at her first lesson. Maestro Pavarotti was... well, a maestro. Her confidence was epic, but even she could fear utter failure.
She knocked and entered.*
"Maestro?"

"Si, Si, Come in!" *Called Pavarotti. He had been getting together some fairly standard Countertenor pieces, mostly Handel, so that he could get a feel for Alex's voice.*

*Alex did so and smiled at the large man. She was a bit nervous, for Pavarotti was clearly a professional and she feared humiliation.*
"Bongiorno, maestro."

**PAV**
"Buongiorno, ragazzo." *He said.*
"I was thinking that today we would test your range after some warmups--this is amenable to you?"

"As the maestro suggests," *Alex murmured, hoping she didn't sound at all flippant. She didn't mean to. But she was nervous--he had never heard her sing.
What if he refused to teach her?*

*He smiled kindly.*
"Do not be nervous, ragazzo. Now for the warmups..."
*The man played and sang a few basic warmups on piano, and asked Alex to then sing them with him.*

*Alex complied, nervous at first but gaining confidence since it was the only real course.
She'd sung in front of hundreds. Surely one man (or one tiny girl) was not such a threat.*
