((Naughty girl! )) *Mulder blinked at the sight. He knew what Poe, did, of course, and even why she did it. Sort of. But he was surprised at the little coil of jealousy which sprang in his gut. He knew it was unworthy of him, or her, or whatever. But it wasn't the first time he'd been jealous over a woman who in no way "belonged" to him.* "Um... I can leave you two alone."

((Yeah, sorry...I'm so bad.))
*Poe turned back with a confused smile, her head tilted in curiosity.*
"Why would you do that, sir?"
*She approached him, resting her hand on his chest.*
"Without you, this epiphany would not be possible. And if you are as curious as I have come to believe, you will want to at least observe the progress."
*Her eyes lowered a moment.*
"And...I think that you will be able to help me."
*She met his gaze.*
"Would that not bring you pleasure?"

*Mulder trembled at her touch.*
"I'm not sure exactly what we're talking about anymore."

*Poe's brow furrowed as she met his eyes.*
"But sir, is it not pleasing to you that I should find some other occupation? My current one seems to cause you great distress. I only want to see your troubles eased. Is that not part of the caring?"
*She smiled gently.*
"And besides, you know more of the Earth customs and lifestyles than I do. You would be invaluable. To me."

*Mulder flushed deep red.*
"Oh! Yeah, sure, that."
*Though he thought Scully might burst a blood vessel if she heard anyone credit him with knowing anything about human customs.*
"I thought..."

*Poe's brows arched softly.*
"You thought...what, sir?"

"Thought you were inviting him to participate in a more carnal matter," *The Doctor offered, to Mulder's chagrin.* "Well, you can hardly blame him. Wonderfully well-preserved for 900 years, aren't I?"

"Oh!"
*Poe looked between the two men.*
"Well, that option is always available. I just assumed...you both seem to value mental stimulation above the physical. I did not wish to be too demanding."

"No!" *Mulder said, a little too loud.* "I mean, you're both very attractive... I mean... The intellect..."
Damn. Me and my alien fetish.
"Maybe later!" *he finally squeaked.*

((I <3 you and your posts made of win.))
*Poe smiled and tangled her fingers in his hair, pulling his face to hers to kiss him. She whispered gently against his lips.*
"I will see you satisfied in every way. I promise."

"I think I'll hold you to that," *he said softly, then remembered the Doctor was still in the room. He still had trouble seeing anything remotely centuries-old about the guy. He was like a ferret in a pinstriped suit. A cute, intelligent ferret, whose suit suited him well, but still.*
"Um, anyway," *he grumbled, pulling slightly away.* "The mission is to get Poe here a job. The most difficult, you say?"
*He paused.*
"Politician," *the two men said at once.*

*Poe stared at the both of them and delighted in the way that their minds seemed to be in unison.*
"But...is not the role of politician reserved for males in this period on Earth?"

*Both men looked downcast.*
"Yeah, that's right," *said the Doctor.* "Bad time for women, all 'round, really. You probably can't be a scientist or a policeman, either. But aren't you forgetting something, Poe? That's not your only suit, as it were."

*Poe's eyes lightened.*
"Oh! Of course. Forgive me. Even after all this time, I am accustom to defaulting to my genetic sex. But what sort of human male would make a good politician?"

*Mulder forgot his previous embarrassment in Poe's good humor.*
"Someone a bit... middle of the road. Not too old or too young. Not too ugly nor too attractive. Extremes put people off; or tip the balance too far to one contingent so you can't get agreement."
*The Doctor cut in:* "You're welcome to any of my forms I'm not using; I don't think any of me are running about Paris this year."
