*Mulder looked at Poe.*
"That doesn't look like a customer," *he said.
The other man looked affronted.*
"What's that mean, then?" *The Doctor said.*

*Poe looked up, not at all upset by the interruption. Her eyes sparked as she smiled and squealed happily, pushing herself up from the bed and looking between the two men as she approached the Doctor.*
"Customer? Oh no! Of course not. This is the Doctor."
*She beamed as if that made some kind of sense that was readily apparent. She gestured back at Mulder.*
"And this is Mulder. He's not a customer either. Well...not tonight. He's helping me learn what else I can be."

*Mulder blinked. There was something... off about this guy.*
"The Doctor?"

"The one and only. I mean, proper noun-wise, definite article and all that. So, soliciting advice from other parties? Not that I mind."
*He looked at Poe with a hint of pride.*
"Any more of those events? Of the passing out sort?"

*Poe's smile dropped for a moment as she processed the question.*
"No, sir. Not exactly. I have managed to maintain my consciousness through the entire procedure, although I admit it has not been entirely pleasant physically."

*The Doctor beamed at her.*
"Excellent!"
*He glanced at Mulder again, as if sizing him up but in a strangely innocuous fashion.*
"Fox Mulder? FBI? I must say, never expected to see you again here. Of all places. But then, there seems to be a lot of that going around these days."
*At Mulder's befuddled expression, he went on.*
"Oh, we haven't met yet. I mean, you haven't. But you're quite important, you know. Was ages ago for me, though. Anyway! Find out anything, Poe, with your experiments?"

*Poe looked up to him and spoke plainly.*
"Mulder tested me with a written survey. Apparently I am an ESTJ, meaning that I like to take charge, value tradition, have a strong work ethic and system of beliefs, and I'm straightforward and honest. I'm good at taking charge, but within set parameters, like the sort society sets. Due to these factors I would make a good leader, something like a politician, a teacher or instructor; an investigator or detective or scientist."
*The recitation complete, she blinked with a practiced air.*
"What do you think, sir? To you agree with the assessment?"

*The Doctor listened to the recitation, favoring Mulder with an amused glance now and again.*
"It seems apt, as far as it goes, Poe. But as Agent Mulder no doubt has told you, it's only a guide. What's important is whether you think it's apt; ultimately, neither of us can tell you what you should do. The most we can do is provide you with tools to make those decisions yourself."
*Mulder was staring at him. He sighed.*
"Time Lord. Hundreds of years old. Not human; two hearts. Yes."

*Poe seemed oblivious to Mulder's curiosity. Her brow furrowed for a moment in thought.*
"Well...how does one try being a politician, teacher, investigator or a scientist?"

*The Doctor crossed his arms and tapped his chin.*
"Now that is the question, isn't it? Most people train for their profession, then get a job. That is to say, you find an opening and convince them you are the most suitable candidate. It frequently involves credentials of some sort, either real or simulated."
"A resume," *Mulder offered, pulling on his shirt and looking as if he thought he could see the other heart through the Doctor's skin but wasn't sure where it resided.*
"Right. Or psychic paper."

*Poe looked between the men with hope in her eyes and a smile curling her lips.*
"How does one manage such things? Will you assist me? Both of you?"

*Mulder glanced at Poe. This was a most unusual situation.*
"I'm game," *he said.* "Whatever you like."
*The Doctor nodded.*
"Me too. But Poe; do you know what you want to do?"

*Poe eyed each man in turn and a particular activity did pop into her mind. A smile crossed her face but she pushed it away gently. They both seemed to be in a mood focused on other things. She pursed her lips a moment, considering.*
"Well...I have never been any of those things. Where are the most opportunities available?"

*The Doctor smiled, enjoying her enthusiasm.*
"That all depends, Poe, but I'm not sure that's the way you should make a decision. After all, I didn't choose the 'stay on Gallifrey and become really really boring' route, and that was definitely what was most available. I doubt Agent Mulder here chose the path of least resistance."
*He moved closer to Poe and smiled down at her.*
"You don't need to decide anything right away, you know."

*Poe smiled up at him, taking in his words. Rocking up on the balls of her feet, she kissed him gently. Her eyes sparkled.*
"Thank you. Perhaps I might test each in turn. Should I start with the most difficult? It might prove to be the most appealing apparently."
((Sorry, I couldn't resist. I like complicating things for poor Mulder. *sits in the corner*))
