*Sylvia looked at Virginia with a hint of sadness. She didn’t want her to suppress her spark, her innocence. A mischievous smirk etched in her face and she lunged at Virginia, tickling her mercilessly.*
“Stop being so serious! I’ll have none of that.”

*Virginia screamed like a little girl, holding up the book to sheild herself from the attack.*
"Please, no..." *she broked down into helpless giggles.*

*Sylvia smiled triumphantly above Virginia, ceasing the onslaught.*
“That’s much better. You are much lovelier when you are smiling. That is also an important lesson. Although don’t give it too freely, just like the rest of your charms.”

"Love is in smiles, and one can never be too free with love. There are so many who need it," *said Virginia.*

*Sylvia’s tone grew serious for a moment.*
“Just be careful, Virginia. There are people in this world that are not as kind natured as you are. We try to protect you from them here, but I will not lie to you and say things are simple.”

"I know that," *she said soberly.* "But I can't just stop believing..." *she shook her head.* "I'd sooner die than become a cynic."

*Sylvia’s expression lightened again.*
“I’m not asking you to give up hoping. After all, that’s what we do here. Share hope with others.”
*She picked up the biology book and handed it back to Virginia.*
“Did you want to read some more?”

*Virginia grinned.*
"Always," *she said, taking the book and opening it, curling up happily in a window-seat like a contented kitten.*

*Sylvia returned to her own book, reading happily. She wondered what new hope the volumes in the library would bring to Virginia.*

*Virginia scanned the book, until she came across a paragraph that caused her to frown slightly.*
"...what about children?" *she suddenly asked Sylvia.*
((Man, I was reading my 19th-century-hooker novel on the bus, and there's this whole disgusting bunch of detail about birth control methods and I'm like ew.))

*Sylvia looked up and frowned. Setting her book down, she walked back over to Virginia and sat on the window seat next to her.*
“There are ways…to reduce the risk of pregnancy. Some are less pleasant than others.”
*She lowered her eyes and proceeded to go through the various methods, detailed with practice and risks. She wanted to answer her question as thoroughly as she could. When she was done, her expression softened in half-jest.*
“Or you could only entertain women. The market is not as available, but it is there.”

*Virginia smiled a little and shook her head.*
"I'm not that fearful of having a child. Even without taking precautions, I doubt..." *she sighed and glanced back at the book.* "I don't think I'm meant to have children. I just wanted to make certain...for now...that I didn't take any risks."

*Sylvia placed her hand gently on Virginia’s. She paused a moment before continuing, respectful of whatever gave Virginia reason to think that.*
“I want you to be as safe as possible. Do you have any more questions?”

"Not at the moment, no," *she said.* "Thank you--" *her smile was grateful.*

*Sylvia smiled.*
“Well, just let me know if you think of anything. Otherwise, I’ll leave the two of you alone.”
*She glanced to the book and gave Virginia a wink. Then she returned to her own book.*
