*Virginia knocked on the door of Madame Dahlia's, still covered in blood.*

*Sylvia had been sitting by the window, playing some solitaire when she heard a knock at the door. That was odd. It was still relatively early. She stood and cautiously opened the door a crack. She recognized the woman almost immediately, even covered in blood.*
“Oh my! Miss Sinclair! Are you all right? Please come in quickly.”
*She ushered Virginia in quickly and shut the door behind her.*
“What happened? Are you injured?”

*Virginia shook her head.* "No...no...it's my friend, Faye--she was..." like a sister...or something more? "my friend...she was murdered. I've broken my engagement to Declan! I just knew there was no way I could lie to myself anymore...or him. I thought I could help him--I wanted to help him, that's all." *She blinked her soulful brown eyes at Sylvia.* "...it made me realize...life may be too short to live a lie...I don't know what will make me happy, but I know now what won't. I'm not meant for the Church anymore...nor am I ready to go and be a wife...not unless I truly loved them."

*Sylvia looked at Virginia with sympathy. She looked to the hallway door behind them and back to Virginia. She took her hands gently.*
“Come with me. We’ll get you cleaned up. You’ve had a hard day. Please let me help.”
*She gave her a tender questioning look.*

*Virginia followed Sylvia, but was shaking her head slowly.* "I...I'm sorry...I didn't think to go home and get clean clothes...I didn't bring any thing with me. The day has been such a blur."

*Sylvia smiled gently as she led her back through the hallway and into her lush private room.*
“Don’t fret. I have plenty of things you may wear.”
*She turned her attention to running a warm bath for Virginia. It was oddly in the same room, off to the side. Beside it was a mostly folded privacy screen. As the tub filled, she walked quickly back to Virginia and nimbly began to unfasten the buttons of her dress, with hopes of easing her out of it gently.*
“You will feel better once we get you out of this and into the tub.”
*She met Virginia’s eyes with a soft expression.*

*Virginia's gaze was numb with pain, but she nodded and peeled off the dress that was becoming stiff with dried blood.* I have to put all this behind me...

*Sylvia worked quickly to remove her undergarments and helped her carefully into the warm tub. She brought over a small tray of colored bottles and jars, as well as a large sponge. As Virginia soaked, she loosened her own dress, stripping down to her chemise, allowing her more maneuverability and less risk of ending up all wet. She knelt beside the tub and picked up the sponge, plunging it into the warm water. Lifting it, she emptied it over Virginia’s shoulders in turn before she rubbed an expensive fragrant soap against the sponge and lathering her skin. Working gently, she kept her eyes lowered, not needing to examine the skin as she worked. Her voice was tender.*
“Does that help? Do you need some sherry?”

*Virginia plugged her nose, her arms crossed over her chest, and shook her head, water droplets flying everywhere for a moment.* "Thank you, no...I don't drink. Well, except for Communion wine," *she remarked flatly, though she still shook slightly from the horror she had witnessed and the emotionally gutting experience of breaking her engagement.*

*Sylvia massaged the woman’s hands, working the blood out from under her nails. She seemed in shock; maybe talking about it wasn’t the best idea at the moment. Her voice gentle.*
“If there is anything that I can do, please do not hesitate to ask.”
*She stood and moved behind Virginia. Grabbing one of the tins, she began to work a soft and lovely scented soap into Virginia’s hair and massaged her scalp.*
“You may stay here as long as you need to, Virginia.”
*Realizing her impropriety, she added.*
“May I call you Virginia?”

"Of course," *she murmured, comforted by this woman's extraordinary kindness.* "I've never been called anything else."

*Washing the soap from her hair, Sylvia looked down to Virginia with a small smile.*
“You really are quite lovely…”
*The thought was mostly to herself and she walked back around to the side of the tub.*
“Did you want to soak longer or are you ready to get out?”

*Virginia turned her gaze to the woman, blinking water from her eyes.* "Thank you--you are too kind to me," *she said gratefully, climbing from the tub.*

*Taking her hand to help her out of the tub, Sylvia wrapped a fluffy towel about Virginia, rubbing her hands over it to aid in drying her off. She smiled sweetly.*
“You are in need. I am happy to help. After all, it is what I get paid to do, although I rarely get to treat someone as sweet as you are.”
