*Jekyll smiled.*
"Then how long should I leave you to get ready? We can leave whenever you like."

*She thought about that. She didn't really have day clothes, and what she did have that wasn't stage costume wasn't appropriate for a restaurant. She knew that much, at least.
She gave Henry a sheepish grin*
"Don't really 'ave somethin' 'propriate. Er, think I should 'ead out an' get a new dress."

"Do you need..." *He paused, not certain how she would take this.* "Do you need money, Lucy?"

*She glanced down at her hands, too embarrassed to meet his eye as she slowly nodded*
"Was in Dahlia's on charity." She mumbled.

*Jekyll reached for his billfold and pulled out some bills.*
"This isn't charity," *he said, handing the money to her.* "It's a loan."

*She gave a dry chuckle as she hesitantly took the money from him*
"Ye're too good to me. Don't know what I did to deserve it."

"Perhaps someday you will," *he said gently.* "But you do."

*Damn. He was the nicest man she'd ever known. Hell, he was the only completely nice one she'd known. She had to hold back the urge to kiss him*
"Heh...I'll try to figure it out."

*Jekyll stood and pulled her chair out for her.*
"Now. You run along and get yourself the nicest appropriate frock you see, and I'll be here when you get back."

*She was on her feet, all smiles* "I promise, it'll be money spent well an' wise." *She hesitated a moment, then kissed his cheek* "I'll be back before ye know it." *She paused just a fraction, not wanting to leave his presence, and then gave a little bow before heading off *

*Jekyll's smile faded as he watched her walk away. He noticed far too many things about her: the way she walked, the way she smelled, her cautious smile when she thought he was being kind. Indecorous thoughts laced his mind, thoughts which gave rise to dreams he could not recall without blushing.
He'd thought his flight to Paris had been about protecting Lisa. Now he saw... he'd only been following Lucy. And which was worse--the idea that he might kill one of them? Or that he'd ended up with the one he wasn't engaged to?
He didn't approve of Lucy's profession. Or of what she made him feel. But he approved of her, and therein lay the rub. Waiting for her, he sat back on his bed, his trousers tight with unfulfilled longing.
It would be a sin to relieve it, he thought. A sin to call her up in his mind's eye and allow the image to fuel his unwanted fantasies. But his body seemed to have a life, and demands, of its own. Henry had always been able to master those demands, but it grew more difficult. Was it Hyde? Had that part of him unleashed something in Jekyll's soul that could no longer be controlled with is powerful mind?
At any rate he now reclined on his bed, his trousers unfastened and rucked about his hips. He tried again to make himself stop. To still his hands and force himself to listen to the logical voice in his head. But there were more senses than that, and the images, the memories, the desire would not abate. His hands utterly refused to obey. And as the dark pleasure built, he forgot his objections until the only sign of his conflict were the tears leaking from his screwed-shut eyes.*
*FADE OUT* *FADE IN*

**SOME TIME LATER**
*She returned, laden with a few new dresses as well as some books. She had a big grin plastered on her face, and even though it hurt to be smiling so much, she couldn't stop. She had no idea shopping could be so much fun. She practically skipped into her room, and immediately set to unpacking her new things and then changing into one of the recently bought dresses. She felt almost respectable, now.*

*He heard her rummaging in the next room and collected himself. He wondered if he could look at her again, but part of him thought it was, perhaps, for the best. That perhaps he could look at her now without quite so much of the wanting. That he had assuaged some part of his hunger.
It still shamed him.
But he would do as he'd said, and take her out, and be the gentleman she thought him.*

*Dressed in something much more reflective of a girl of Lisa's station, though not conscious of the measure she'd used to buy it, Lucy knocked on Henry's door*

*Jekyll schooled his face to blandness before opening the door, but found he could not resist a genuine smile, despite his shame.*
"Miss Lucy. You look enchanting," *he said.* "I could not have spent the money better myself."
