*Henry lay on his bed fully clothed, staring unseeingly at the ceiling.
Lucy.
What had led him here, to that whorehouse, that library, that closet where Hyde--his Hyde--had been holding her? About to do the unspeakable? It seemed plain Hyde's presence had attracted him, drawn him inexorably.
But how? How were they now two? He wracked his brain, trying to formulate a hypothesis. The transformations he'd experienced were one thing. Creating completely new flesh--separating a being entirely--was another. Perhaps closer to his original intent. Though his original intent had not included granting the evil bodily autonomy, to do as he pleased.
His mind drifted back to Lucy in the next room. Reading Blake. He smiled at that.*

*Jekyll tossed uneasily in his sleep, clothes still on but twisting about his body. His face creased, making him look older than he was, and his lips moved though no sound came out. Without warning he sat up in bed, his eyes open but unseeing. He stumbled across the floor to the connecting door between his and Lucy's rooms.
He had not locked it.
He stepped through into the dark room beyond, his glazed eyes unerringly finding Lucy in her bed. He crept through the quiet until he hovered above her. Beads of sweat stood out on his brow as he seemed to struggle within himself.*
Lucy.
*Something about her drew him inexorably. He watched her chest rise and fall in her sleep, her lips parted in incongruously girlish innocence. His fingers, unbidden, reached out to trace them.*

*She gave a soft sigh at the touch, shifting a bit in her sleep so that her cheek rested upon her hand, her dark hair fanned out upon her pillow*

*She was so beautiful. Jekyll trembled as he held himself above her, aching to sink down into her soft warmth. But it was not necessarily tenderness he felt. It was need.
His eyes skimmed down her body, or that which was revealed by the bedclothes covering her. He put out a hand to ripped them from her when suddenly he awoke with a start, astonished to find himself in this position, with this... this feeling coursing through him. He gasped aloud.*
"No."

*She muttered something, words muffled by the pillow. She wasn't waking up--it was a dream, one vivid enough that it was putting a frown on her face. When she turned her face from the pillow, the last of what she said could be heard clearly.*
"...only you."

*Jekyll's face flamed in the dark room, his shame at the desire he felt for her--the wish for those words to be directed at him--filling him. He'd flirted with her, yes. He'd considered for fleeting seconds a dalliance. But never to the point where he entered a woman's room by night, uninvited, unknown. What was he doing here? She was under his protection.
And he wasn't Hyde. He knew that quite well.
He stumbled from her bedside, making for the sliver of darkness that indicated his own room. She would not know, and he would lock the door. Tell her tomorrow to lock hers.*

*Another mutter, this one sounding half-asleep*
"...who's there?"

*He could not resist turning around at the door.*
"It's Henry," *he said softly.* "Go to sleep. You are safe."
*If only he could believe that.*

*She gave him a sleepy smile*
"Oh...all right."
*She hadn't really been awake, and was soon asleep once again*

**NEXT MORNING**
*Jekyll had stared into the face in the mirror for what seemed like hours. It hadn't changed.
He was himself.
He'd propped a chair under the doorknob in the hopes that it would deter him should it happen again, though he'd determined not to fall asleep. But he did at last, in the hour before dawn, and dreamed restlessly of Hyde's evildoing.
When he awoke, haggard and guilt-ridden, he sent for breakfast and knocked on Lucy's door.*

*Lucy was still asleep. As her old job had dictated that she keep night hours, she'd always slept in during the mornings. The knocking only slowly made it's way through her dream before she finally woke up.
Carelessly throwing on a robe to cover her nightclothes, she went over to the door and opened it*
"'allo?"

"Terribly sorry!" *Jekyll said, stricken anew.* "I thought... that is, I should have..."
*She worked at night. He blushed red.*
"I'll bring breakfast later."

*She smiled at Henry, some of the sleepy-zombiness wearing off*
"Oh, no worries! I gotta get used to this schedule, eh?"

"I suppose," *he said. It all depended. But he could not guess what might happen.* "I thought perhaps we could breakfast together. But I will wait until you are decent."

"I'd love breakfast! Always 'ad it alone, 'avin' someone else would be nice."
*She didn't make any move back into her room, not really wanting to go just yet.*
