*The woman didn't blink an eye, but Spike had to quickly suppress his surprise. He just nodded, trying to look cool and as indifferent as possible. The woman just smiled and handed them two keys.*
"Just upstairs. On the left." *She replied.*
*Spike took the keys and handed one to Buffy looking as if to say 'after you'.*

*Buffy gave him a look but preceded him upstairs. She glanced at her key. It looked like a normal key. But that girl downstairs hadn't looked normal. Or rather, she sort of had.*
"This place is weird," *she announced.*

*Spike kinda got that, but didn't want to think too hard about it at the moment.*
"Good weird or bad weird?" *He asked in a private tone.*

*Buffy looked around.*
"Let's go inside."
*She unlocked the door and left it open.*

**NEW EVENING**
*Oscar had walked with confidence, but as they traveled she had grown more uncertain about where they were and what had happened to Paris. These were not the streets she knew, and had made it her business to know. But at last an inn presented itself which, while somewhat rustic, seemed to offer warmth and shelter that was not too insulting. She held the door for Lady Rose, after hitching the horse to the post outside. She would be back for him soon, naturally.*
"Will this suit, my lady?"

"Very well, thank you."
It was better than Rose had expected, certainly.

*Oscar gazed around, somewhat troubled by the unfamiliarity of the clothing styles and decor. But that wasn't really her forte.
She arranged a room for the girl and bowed, her hand on the hilt of her sword.*
"I must depart, for I seek someone tonight. But may I call upon you tomorrow, to make certain of your comfort?"

"That would be fine. Just, um, knock first."

*Oscar laughed musically.*
"Of course. I would never enter a lady's chamber without knocking. Or a gentleman's, for that matter."

*Oscar inclined her head.*
"Not at all, my lady," *she said.* "On the morrow."
*She turned, and with one backward glance, was gone.*

**SHORTLY AFTER BUFFY AND SPIKE LEFT THE FIRST TIME**
*Buffy bounded back down the stairs to stop suddenly in front of the girl at the desk.*
"So. You're not from around here. We're not from around here. What's the story on that, huh?"

*Brandi looked up with a blink from where she'd been digging around in a cabinet. She stood and wiped her hands on her skirt.*
Guess it was silly to bring them here. She was always a bit smarter than she looked. Well...at least by fifth season. Oh well.
*She nodded in acknowledgment and gestured to the kitchen.*
"Would you like something to eat? We can talk privately."
*Her eyes implored Buffy's understanding, even as Spike showed up behind her.*

Well. That was easy.
*She waved a hand in Spike's general direction.*
"Oh, he's cool." *She frowned.* "Well. Temperature-wise, anyway. I mean, he was the one who suggested asking you. Oh! You mean, all of us, as opposed to..."
*She jerked her head at the rest of the room.*
"Okay."

"This way then."
