Hell, even living on the streets he'd had an extra shirt. What if it got ripped or messed up some other way?

"I have other clothes!" he blurted, a little indignantly. "I mean I don't have so many that no one will notice one set of them being shredded! I told him to be careful with them--" Aaand then he shut up.

"Well, yeah, normal clothes," he said defensively. "I was just thinking that it doesn't make sense to not have more than one set of uniform available.
And you can't really expect a vampire to do anything except what they want."

His confusion collided with his understanding of the need for secrecy, and he had the feeling that Basini wanting to keep the subject quiet might not be so very different than the times László had had to do the same. Coming to that conclusion, a very different look was on his face--compassion and the understanding of one who has been there. True, it likely wasn't exactly the same circumstances, but he could sympathize in the case of abuse.
"Of course. Forgive me for not seeing that sooner...and, I think they'd send you home with something. I know I was given some pain medication when I was released."

The boy smiled, slightly inappropriately, and reached to touch László's sleeve.
"That'll be nice," he said, rather absently. "That'll be great. You're a very kind person, László."
