*Her eyes widened*
"Did you do that run?"

Menelaus stared blankly at her. "Of course. As anyone else did." We won the battle and ran to tell our countrymen that we had won the war.((Note: I have no idea if Menelaus really WAS in that battle. I am making this up ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png) ))

"Wow...that's awesome!" She sounded genuinely impressed...for she was.

Menelaus noticed the impressed sound in her voice and smiled. If only Helen just for once would show that he had managed to impress her.... but not even once since he married her at the age of 8... or was it 10?.... had she showed any signs that she cared about him. Even if he because of her youth had left her alone, waiting for her to mature. Unfortunately for him, she ran away with Paris when she was 14.
"Thank you, but we pretty much had no choice. The peace did not last for long before we got another war coming. Those were dangerous times."

*Melody had no idea what war he was talking about, but she nodded in sympathy*
"It's never easy living with that."
Not that she knew how that felt, but she felt like she could understand, at least.

Menelaus smiled gently, grateful for her understanding. It was more than he ever had got in his marriage to Helen. Not once had his young wife showed even the faintest trace of sympathy for him.
"War is never easy for anyone who has to live through it."
He smiled and tried to shake off the memories.
"If mylady needs escort somewhere, I would be happy to be of service."

Her sympathetic smile turned grateful.
"I would really appreciate it, if you could. I don't know this city very well."

Menelaus gave a friendly smile.
"I don't know this city very well myself, mylady. But since I am carrying weapons and know how to use them if necessary, I hardly doubt you will be attacked in my presence. I would never let anything happen to a lady like you."
He offered his arm galantly.
"May I?"

Holding the laptop under her arm, she took the offered arm with her free hand unhesitatingly.
"I think you probably know more than me, at least."
((Dig up some docks!))

A few hours later, a girl wandered in through the front doors of the foyer.
She wasn't pretty, or slender, and her eyes only managed to change color on occasion because they were actually a rather indecisive muddy hazel that looked green or brown depending on the light. She clutched a pink iPod in one hand and a purple portfolio in the other, and had a small pink diamond-patterned backpack slung over her shoulder.
She looked around and saw that it was as crowded as she'd expected, and that most everyone there's clothes looked Victorian.
She glanced down at her own blue peasant blouse, jeans and white canvas shoes.
"Oh, hell," Megan muttered. "I seem to have fallen into a badphic."

Howl deftly made his way down the foyer's great staircase, having decided to return home to his castle after the opera rather than stay for pleasant chit-chat with old and new acquaintances. Very odd of him, indeed, but the past days' work had left him deprived of much needed beauty sleep.
It was certainly difficult to miss the young woman in the midst of the flurry, particularly owing to her bewildered expression and rather strange attire.
"May I help you?" Howl offered.

Megan whirled around and had to stop herself from shouting "Herbert? What are you doing out in the middle of the day!?", but she quickly realized that this was the wrong sparkly fop altogether, and she sighed in relief. The idea of running into one of her characters- especially one she'd forced through getting shot eleven times and foisted noncanonical mental illness on- was more than she could take at the moment.
And the man had spoken English, too. Great. She'd definitely fallen into some alternate reality.
"Oh, sorry," she apologized, pushing her bangs out of her eyes. "I'm just a little, um, confused."
And in a whole other universe.

Howl waved the matter away, stating that it was perfectly fine.
"Are you lost?" he attempted to clarify.

"In a manner of speaking. Look, I'm not from around here, and I-"
She glanced up to look at him better, and suddenly felt very plain and fat. And there was something about his eyes that she couldn't quite put a finger on.
I should know who this guy is.
