This was skirting dangerous territory, since half of that investigation was done as Batman.
"I did, yes. Have you heard of the Joker?"
Maybe, if he was careful, he could tell Clark without giving himself away.

His knitted his eyebrows "I have."

"It was him. He somehow found out where she was staying and took her."
And no matter what kind of lead he followed, no matter how thin, it had led nowhere.
"But everything I did turned up nothing. The man is like a ghost."

"He's high profile" he looked from the other man's eyes for a second with a pensive look "he'll turn up. A man like that is looking for the attention, he's got no pattern yes, but his M.O. is pretty obvious. He needs the attention that chaos brings."
The idea of Lois being held by that mad man literally made his stomach turn, a feeling he couldn't hide from his face.

"I hope so. There's quite a few people that would love to pile on the hurt.
Don't suppose you've turned up anything on him using your reporting skills?"
Any resource, any at all, that could help.

((No joke, the way you write Bruce I hear all of his lines in Kevin Conroy's voice, not Christian Bales XD))
"I just got back from-" he paused "-an extremely extended vacation, you were my first stop in town. Nobody managed to contact me during my absence about Lois so I," he swallowed "I only just heard." It was obvious to anyone that Clark was hurting. But he didn't have time to cry, as much as he wished to fall apart he had to stay strong, for Lois.
"You can be assured that I'll put every skill at my disposal in to finding Lois."
Even if it kills me.

((Haha! Well, Conroy's awesome, so that made me smile. Mine's like, a composite of Batmans.))
"We'll both do our damnedest. Maybe between the two of us, it'll work out."

((it's freakin awesome))
He didn't smile.
"There is no maybe Bruce, we will find Lois."
She's alive, she's too strong to die, you'd know that if you paid attention. The thought was vicious and Clark immediately regretted it, he knew that Bruce had taken as much care for her as he could. Some things couldn't be helped.

"Of course. I'll tell Alfred to expect to see you here again."

"You will be seeing me soon, I assure you" he stood up and leaned his hand across the desk in order to shake Bruce's.

Moving more like an old man than someone in his prime, he leaned forward to shake the offered hand.
"Then I'll see you later."

Clark's shake was firm, bordering on almost painful. He looked the other man squarely in the eyes as he released his hand.
He stood up, shadowing Bruce, and headed toward the door remarking casually "You should get your knee checked out, you've got arthritis in the right one" and disappeared through the hallway and out of the door before Alfred could see him.

Within moments Alfred appeared in the doorway, looking rather grim "Master Bruce?"

Bruce had a raised eyebrow at the comment. And just how would Clark know that?
His thoughts were interrupted by Alfred.
"Yes, Alfred?"
He hated making Alfred worry. But he was so stuck in drift mode that he didn't know how to get out of it again. He'd have to try harder, at least for Alfred...and Jess.

"I've never been one to keep my opinions to myself" his voice shook "but I have and I'm afraid I can't any longer. I worry for you, constantly. With each passing day I fear you've pulled further and further from normal society and it frightens me. I promised your mother and father I'd take care of you and I haven't" he straightened his back up and pulling in a trolley with what looked to be a large lunch on it.
"So I've done three things today, I've made you lunch, I've called your doctor and I've made you reservations for one to see the big top circus on Sunday. I expect you to eat and I expect you to see your doctor, whether or not you head to the circus or not is up to you."
He stood there defiant behind a trolley, waiting for Bruce's response.
