"No," *she said briefly, her tone indecipherable.*

He sighed "She was Jess Cartwright was Bruce's lover, girlfriend, what have you, she lived her for almost a year. In London, Bruce was chasing some villain named Queen Dopplepoplus, while Jess was out and about in London. She went missing that night and when he tracked Dopplepoplus to the Tower of London, Jess was there. She fell of the roof. They never found her body."

*She sat there, quiet, both horrified and profoundly sad at the same time. How did he always manage to find the strength to keep on going? Her heart sank to the pit of her stomach.*
"I don't think I can blame him for not telling me that," *she said, almost to herself after a drawn out pause.*

"Master Wayne is a very reserved man, as you know, and when he gives himself to something, he gives himself full hearted."
He smiled and reached across touching Lois hand with a raised eyebrow.

*Lois held onto his hand and vehemently fought the tears that began to pool in her eyes.*
"I hope I'm doing the right thing, Alfred."

"You are, you're helping him, you made him smile when I didn't think he had anything in him" he grinned "it's you that's saving him now."

"A little is always enough, he see's it, I promise you" scooting his chair over he wrapped a comforting arm around Lois's shoulders.

*She leaned on him.*
"Thanks Alfred," *she said with a strained voice. But she didn't sound exactly convinced.*

Alfred pushed a strand of hair out of her eyes "You'll see, everything will be okay."
He smiled and kissed her forehead in a fatherly way, he was about to say something else, but then the doorbell rang.

On the other side of that door stood a ghost, not a real one that was, but one that would turn Alfred white as he opened the door.
"Hello Alfred."

Alfred stood back, the coincidence was too much far too much, that he'd just be explain to Lois about the woman that was, standing... standing in front of him.
"Miss Jess?" He didn't move "Tell me you aren't a hallucination."

*Lois froze and seemed more puzzled than shocked.
He had just told her that she was dead.*

"I'm real Alfred, I-I've got a lot of explaining to do I'm sure" she took a step in, as Alfred took a step back and noticed a woman staring at her, stopping with her hands behind her back, she stared back. The woman's face wholly familiar to her, she'd seen it a million times, back in the real world, or whatever that was anymore.
Lois Lane.
Straightening her back, Jess pushed a strand of hair out of her face, not really knowing what to say.

Alfred simply continued to stare.
She looked different, due to the definite weight loss, but she was there, in the eyes.
He looked over to Lois, unable to move, unable to try to convince her that he wasn't lying.
"You were dead" he finally managed to say "you fell off of a roof, Miss Jess... you were dead."
