"As much as I love dirty-mouthed sailors, I love gentlemen as well," *she said with a bright smile.*

"And that's the most you'll get out of me" he chuckled "chivalry will never be dead as long as I'm about."

"You know I am getting rather old" he smiled "but as I'm sure Bruce will need me until he's old and gray, I'm not sure I'll even be allowed to grow too old."

*Lois paused for a second.*
"I have a feeling that you've been the only constant relationship he's had..."

"Is it weird to say that I'm jealous?" *she said, looking down at her cup of tea for a moment, just a bit embarrassed at her sincerity.*

"I wouldn't be, the man is a burden none should have to bear" he replied seriously, before laughing.

*She only laughed after he started laughing.*
"As far as burdens go, It can't be worse than carrying Lucy, lost through the streets of Berlin for six hours because she sprained her ankle trying to walk in four-inch heels. The kid was insane back then."

Alfred wiped his eyes with a handkerchief "Sorry" he smiled and sipped his coffee "who's Lucy? If I may ask."

"My younger sister," *she replied.* "She was a good-girl trying really hard to become a party-girl back then. Hence the heels and the getting lost in Berlin."
God, I miss her.

Alfred sensed a hardness in Lois's voice, one that was both nostalgic, and sad.
He pouted "Young women go through phases as you know."

*Lois swallowed hard and nodded.*
"Yeah... it's just that her phases were getting her into trouble in countries where not everyone spoke English. And I was always the one bailing her out so the Colonel wouldn't find out," *she said, rolling her eyes.*
"But he would find out anyway and I'd be the one getting grounded because I tried and cover it up for her."
*Sighing, she took another sip of her tea.*
"Life as an army brat," *she added with a that's-life sort of grin.*

"It's a difficult life for a military family, when I was in British Guard, I saw the strain that it took on the other officers with family."
