I think Jeremy Dufour has been used very frequently as a Draco Malfoy. Particularly with photos like this: I guess I can see it, but I just don't think he's pointy enough. Agreed, he lacks the pointiness necessary. I'd picture Tom Felton, it's just that I can't stop seeing pictures of Tom out of character looking all nice and smiling and generally... not very Malfoy at all. Models always have their fierce face on. I think they did a very decent job (or got really lucky) picking Felton; he was an adorable little brat in the first movie, and actually did grow up pretty darn pointy. In general though the Draco in my head is the Draco I've had in my head since I started reading the books. As for the Silk Spectre debacle, both their graphic novel designs are hot 80s messes, and Sally > Laurie in the movie. As evidenced by my choice of Halloween costume.

No matter the medium, though, I still think Sally's are better.
To keep my post relevant with the thread title in some way... ( XD ):
I always thought that Felton was too cute to be Malfoy. I always imagined Draco as being off-putting in appearance in some way--not in that he's majorly unattractive or something, but in a sort of general way.

I suppose he could look a little more pinched or something, but I think he does a really great job. He's probably one of the more talented actors out of the group playing Harry's generation, too. I WANT TO PINCH HIS CHEEKS IN THE FIRST MOVIE

Oh yeah, I definitely don't have complaints on his acting. I actually think he doesn't get enough attention in that regard--all of the other younger actors in the movies often get overshadowed by The Three.
Aww, baby!Felton is adorable.

I was freaking out man he was ridiculously precious
Also, I think Danrad is the weakest of the younger actors. Just saying. When he went off to do Equus everyone was like "oooh he's a big-time actor" but really they cast him because of the name. Think of the press that production got that it wouldn't have otherwise. I like Emma and Rupert, though.

I don't picture any of the film people when I read the book because they occupy different universes in my head...and I don't know how anyone could like GN!Sally's costume better than GN!Laurie's. Maybe because neither looks actually flattering drawn by Dave Gibbons, but I think in real life that Laurie's GN costume is bloody well adorable. I'm not entirely sure why they altered it so much for the film, because the version of Sally's they came up with for the film is more GN!Laurie's and GN!Sally's. SO CONFUSED.
(Also Micaela: xD It is so ironic you can picture Jeremy Dufour more as him in some ways than Tom Felton because you've seen Tom Felton smiling. I think that should be my excuse. To my brain, Jeremy Dufour is always Adrien. Aka, one of those pictures of him with a big ole doltish grin.)
Also I totally think Watson is the weakest one. Can't. Stand her.

I mean I've always had strong mental images of the characters; when I started reading them the movies didn't even exist. So I still definitely have book versions in my head, but sometimes if I really like a character I start picturing them not in the movie or book, somewhat like an rp character, so I start identifying a pb. It's really dorky.
And heh, once I know someone is a model I automatically see them in my head with their modelface on... Tom Felton I see with this cute happy smile. Also I follow him on Twitter, and he's just so NICE
I just watched the first movie, and Emma was just the right amount of obnoxious in that movie. Unfortunately when Hermione's character developed, she kind of didn't, acting-wise. Felton is still my favorite; he really impressed me with HBP

Okay, when they're kids, I am totally with you there. My mom has this theory about it which runs that she has a bit of an awkward quality about her which works very well when you're a kid and you have to be Hermione, but that it turned into not being able to act. You direct child actors differently and they have to rely on different behaviors to act than adults, and she just didn't learn. So.
Evanna is my favorite. :3

Yeah, I think the Hermione quality is what kept her from developing as an actress. On the bright side, Emma's smart and going to Brown full-time. She'll have other options later down the line.
Child actors and adult actors are so different. I mean, I sucked as a kid and I'd say I'm pretty good now, but the way I go about it now is so different than anything I even could have attempted as a little kid. One of the crazy things about this series is that they had to pick child actors for roles that would eventually require adults, and then film them as they spanned the gap. It would have been some kind of miracle for all the child actors they picked to become good actors as young adults.
I think Evanna is adorable, but I will always hate her for being British/Irish. I wanted to die when they announced open casting for Luna, but that only British girls were being considered. I wanted to be Luna so bad omg

Of course she will, and she'll remember, hopefully fondly, having done this for the rest of her life. From her perspective it's all good and I'm glad about that.
I think Rupert Grint would be pretty good if they gave him something not-comic-relief to do. I also like the boys who play Fred and George, and I agree that there's at least room for Tom Felton to do something other than what they've given them. And I don't remember her name, but I sort of like the girl who plays Ginny. But in total honesty, I think a huge part of the fault is with the directors. I think most of the scenes with the students fall completely flat. There's just not enough energy. (The only film I liked was the third one. I still love it. *sigh*) Even Emma and Dan wouldn't be that bad if they set things up so that there was more opportunity for movement.
*pats sympathetically*

Haha Emma's pretty much Hermione in real life, and I somehow suspect Hermione would be a dreadful actress.
The reason Felton's recent performance was impressive was because up until the 6th movie Draco was a pretty flat character to begin with. He hadn't had anything at all to work with previously, and maybe that's the reason he turned out a decent actor later on. He didn't have to attempt a depth that would be difficult for a 12-year-old, like some of the others did, and therefore didn't get set in that Child Actor way of approaching a role.
And as you said, the blame can't lie entirely with the actors. The directing has been rather spotty and weak, and the whole series has been toned down to Harry Potter Lite. To some extent, of course movies would have to cut down, but some pretty significant points got lost in the translation, so to speak.

Kiba: Gryffindor, due to his Chronic Hero Syndrome and his inability to understand "just let it go." But instead of repressing his anger in a tiny little ball controlling his emotions like Harry a normal person, he takes them out on people he hates. Definitely the darker side of Gryffindor.
Tsume: Gryffindor, with the arrogance and loyalty, with shades of Hufflepuff since he's trying to make Kiba not be as much of a basket-case for five minutes.
Billy/Dr. Horrible: Definitely a Hufflepuff. He's smart enough to get into Ravenclaw, but he's also willing to get the job done (after much pressing).
The Mad Hatter: RAVENCLAW. Then he can be in the same room with Luna and the world would implode with awesomeness.
The Unicorn: Maybe a Ravenclaw since she's smart and... fuck, she'd just stay in the Forbidden Forest anyway.

Ironically, you post this today - Megan and Hallie and I took a sorting hat quiz online for our characters today. (Not that we found out anything new. Adrian's still a Ravenclaw and Adrien's still a Hufflepuff, and that is that.)
