"I wouldn't call it bravery- Shaheen's good. And I'd kill him if he stabbed me, so..."
She trailed off awkwardly, but she was smiling with pride.

Shadi smiled at Pina. "If I stab you, you're free to try," she assured Pina.
"How are you liking carnival life so far?" Gwynplaine asked. "Is it new to you, too, Shaheen?"
Shadi nodded. "Oh yes. But I'd always dreamed of running away to the circus. You know."
Gwynplaine didn't.

Josephine, in the meantime, was a bit lost in thought over the subject of Shaheen. It had kept nagging at her, that calling Shaheen "sir" was actually not quite the right form of address. She'd been a bit thrown off guard earlier on it, but now that she'd had enough time to listen to Shaheen speak, she felt sure that she wasn't mistaken.
But she wouldn't air her thoughts, not here.

"I see," Gwynplaine said. The youngsters seemed in good spirits, not bowed yet by the life they'd chosen as a whim. And perhaps that was how it was, when you had a choice. "I wish you the best of luck then, Monsieur."
He glanced again at Josephine, wondering that she brought them here, that she'd thought of him.

"Thanks," Shadi said cheerfully, not at all disturbed by Gwynplaine, though he seemed rather sad and that made her sad for him. He was kind, and sweet, and not all that horrid looking--certainly he had it all over Erik. And yet here he was, stuck in this sideshow of a sideshow.
It struck her that Erik not being sweet, or kind, was why he'd escaped.

"I'm so glad to have met you all. I was starting to wonder if I'd ever make friends here." Her words were amiable--she wasn't overly sad, simply glad that things seemed to have changed for the better .

Gwynplaine could not imagine why Josephine should have had trouble finding friends. She was bright, beautiful, and charming. He didn't think she belong there at all, not with their sort. He was not sorry to have met her, but she confused him.
He did not notice Shaheen glancing from Josephine to him and back again, a slight smile on his face.
"Nor I," he said softly, wondering if he could trust these feelings--wondering if he truly had a friend.

**NEW DAY**
Taking a short break from practising with her fire ability (it was coming along well enough, but slowly, mostly due to her fear of her own powers), Yaoya was wandering the fairgrounds. She'd already stopped at a cotton candy booth as well as a weight-guesser (he was wrong), and was drifting in the direction of the strength tester. She waited, wanting to finish the cotton candy first before trying the game out.

At the same time, Eddy was chilling out eating a hot dog. He'd managed to get himself high enough that he couldn't remember how he got to the circus, when he finally came down. Of course, a zydrate dealer was just around the corner so it wasn't long before he was up again.
Of course it was taking more and more to even get him falling apart like he'd been the first time, and now had become what would be called "A Functioning Addict".
From his hot dog he noticed an exotic young woman eating a bit of cotton candy. He grinned and shot up from the his seat, throwing the rest of his hot dog away and heading over to her. Stealthily he came up behind her and whispered "Looking to test your strength?"

With a little "eep!" she jumped, turning swiftly around to see who it was.
"Ah...well...when I finish this cotton candy." She said, a bit breathless.
Why'd he sneak up on her? Now her heart was pounding!

"I'm sorry to startle you mam" he smiled apologeticly "I didn't mean to."

She nodded as her heart slowed to a more reasonable beat.
"Yes, of course. Did you want to play the strength game?"

He looked at it and shrugged "I think I might, that teddy bear looks quite appeasing" he joked.

"I want the...unicorn?"
Western ideas of what a kirin looked like were a bit funny, but she rather liked the horse with a horn.
"But do I have to do something different? Or can I pick one?"

"Well" he smiled "it looks like to get the unicorn you're going to have to hit it above the halfway mark."
