In-between shows--there was a decent amount of time between sets--Josephine moved about the grounds of the circus, steps sure and unwavering as she moved from area to area. She'd heard that they'd recently gotten new people among them, and was trying to find them to say hello.

Shadi--in her guise as a young boy, of course--occupied herself in a similar manner. She liked watching people, and meeting the denizens of the circus and sideshow. The woman who occupied her attention now was curious--an attractive woman, but the way she moved implied blindness. Shsadi wondered what she was doing here, and as her movement seemed a little aimless, Shadi approached.
"Excuse me," she piped up. "Are you looking for something, mademoiselle?"

After an encounter with the strange man that called himself the Ringmaster, Pina was happy to see Shadi and another girl who looked somewhat normal. She hurried up to the pair and got a better look at the girl- she was pretty but her eyes looked odd, unfocused. She wondered if she was blind... Well, that certainly worked to her advantage.
"Hi Shaheen," she said, mostly used to the name. "And. Um. Hello!"

"Oh, hello!" She greeted them both. A girl and...a boy?...by the sound of them.
"After a fashion, I suppose you could say I'm looking for someone. I like to greet those who have recently joined us here at the circus."

Shadi smiled at Pina.
"Then you've found us," she said. "I'm Shaheen, and this is Proserpina. We have a knife-throwing act."

Josephine's confusion lifted, and she was sure that it was a girl with a low-pitched voice rather than a boy. Rather, like a girl talking like a boy. Having tact, Josephine did not bring that up.
"Pleased to meet you! I'm Josephine...and I think I may have been to your act."

Shadi noted she had not said "seen," and confirmed her guess.
"Oh," she said. "I hope you enjoyed it. We're still working out the details, I think." There was something about the woman that seemed familiar--but Shadi couldn't put her finger on it. She knew she hadn't met her before. "You work here, then?"

Pina stood next to Shadi, mostly content to let the two of them do the talking for now. She studied the other woman, struck by a certain familiarity about her. She had seen her around the circus grounds before, she knew, but there was something more to that.
"Do you have relatives in Paris?" she asked at the same time as Shadi.

Shadi glanced at Pina, convinced she had seen it too. It tingled, like when she'd met Julian and known something right away. Not quite like that, of course. But if Pina thought so, too...

"I did enjoy it. Though, I wished the crowds weren't so rowdy at times."
She smiled at the questions coming at the same time.
"I do work here, yes. I have a juggling act. It's only me, but it seems to be enough to draw a crowd...and, I consider the circus my family. I don't really know who my parents were."

Pina gave a little shrug in Shadi's direction. There was something about this girl, but again, she wasn't sure... And if she didn't know who her parents were, they could be anyone.
"We'll have to come see your act next time, then," she said, honestly interested in seeing what she could do.
"I'm sorry- I only wondered. You just- I don't know. Seemed familiar somehow."

"I do? Oh, well, it's all right. I don't think I've ever remdinded someone of another person before.
And, I would love it if you came to my act. I've been wanting opinions from other performers."

"We'd be happy to," Shadi said. "Like you said, we're new, so we haven't seen everyone, yet." This woman didn't seem unhappy or bitter about her lot. "So... you like it here, then?"

"I can make sure you get good seating."
She smiled at the next question.
"I do like it here. It's home to me. Or, the closest anything will ever come to that. All my friends are here in the circus."

"I'd like to meet them," said Shadi, who was curious about all of it. "If it's not too much trouble. Everyone here seems so interesting."
