He set the book aside. It wasn't as though he was getting much out of it with his broken French. That done, he had no idea what else to say or do. He knew how to act around Isa, or Miles or Mercutio, but he still wasn't sure what would or wouldn't fly with John.
"Um...busy?"

"What?" John quirked his eyebrow "Oh right, not really, everything done, a lot of the families left today, so things are kind of quiet around here."

"Well, that's...good. Sometimes you need a break."
He cringed. This was the bland kind of conversation you had when you couldn't think of anything else to say. Why oh why did have to be bad at this?
"So what do you do when you're not working?"

"I swim, I go to the market, I read, I read a lot actually, I haven't much of a life outside the shelter, at least not since my wife died. When Amras was here, Amras is an old friend of mine, when he was here, I'd go out a lot, he'd take Marie out too and we'd see things we forgot were here. But he's busy in Lorien now, he'll be visiting soon and I am rambling terribly."
John laughed and looked down in to his cup "Trying to fill the silence I imagine."

"Why don't you go out anymore? I know this place gets busy but it's not insane. And I'm sure you could find more help if you needed it.
And no, you're not rambling. At least you have something interesting to say."

"I've got no one to go with really, Isa is always busy, the poor girl, and I've got plenty of help, it's just I haven't many friends." He shrugged, it never bothered him really, he was happy with what he was doing.

"Well thank you, but I realized, if I don't go out, I don't make friends, so I can go out with friends, you see it's a terribly vicious cycle."

"Okay...I feel weird saying this, since it's usually others saying it to me--go out, then. Meet people, talk to them. Or if not take with you someone from the shelter who isn't related to you. You have to start somehow."

"Laszlo, I'm not sure if you'd notice, but other than the girls, you are the only other person I talk to here regularly."
John laughed "That would mean, the only person I could take, would be you."

He colored at bit at the last comment.
"Ah. Well, I...wouldn't mind."
