"Yes," he said, smiling. "I have no idea if she's still in Gotham or here in Paris."

*Lois got up, grabbed a piece of paper and a pen from the desk and jotted down a few names that quickly came to mind.*
"Should I hope she's in Gotham or Paris?" *she asked as she scribbled madly.*

"Good question." He thought it over for a moment, but only a moment.
"I'd say hope she's in Gotham."

*Lois' writing slowed down then stopped. She looked up at him and seemed curious, if not mildly confused. Call it journalistic intutition or whatever but she sensed something... more. Her curiosity was certainly piqued but she was doing him a favor and didn't want to poke around.*
"All right then," *she said with a quick nod and a friendly grin.* "I hope she's in Gotham."

"I really appreciate it. Hopefully you won't have to go out of your way and I'm just worrying for nothing."
*But he couldn't help wondering, not with the strangeness as of late*

"No one worries for nothing, and that's especially true between friends," *she said, knowingly.*
*She shrugged, trying to make it all seem like casual talk... which she was clearly bad at.*
"Take me for example. Superman just takes off weeks ago and I know, logically, that he'll be more than fine-- I mean, he's indestructable for pete's sake--but I'm concerned. Not worried, per se. It's not like I lose sleep over him..."
*Lois hung her head, quite aware of how unconvincing and hurt she had sounded.*
"Damn. Okay, uh, bad example," *she muttered under her breath.* "Forget it."
"I'll just contact these people and get back to you ASAP."

*Bruce had heard rumors about Superman and Miss Lane, but he'd only dismissed them as rumors--the media, as always, liked to talk gossip, especially about one of their own. Besides, it was Lois' business what did or did not happen with Superman.*
"It's okay...and thanks again."

*****LATER*****
*Lois was standing on the veranda as the sun began to set. The red-orange sunlight shined through the tall french windows behind her and onto the polished hardwood floors of the room.
She felt a lot better and certainly looked it too, thanks to Alfred who had brought her everything she had asked for. She had popped two asprin, taken a long bath and cleaned the diagonal scar on her cheek. Alfred had also dropped off what seemed to be a whole new wardrobe of clothing... that was her exact size. Lois had a feeling he didn't figure that out all by himself.
She had taken some time to make the necessary calls and was now waiting for replies.
Now she stood alone on the veranda, in a bathrobe, with a cigarette in one hand and a lighter in the other. Her eyes were vacant as they stared at the two seemingly insignificant objects. It had been almost half an hour since she had moved.
But an obnoxious blare from the fax machine started her out of her little reverie. Lois left the cigarette and the lighter on the ledge of the veranda and ran inside. She stared at the pages for a moment then quickley dialed a number.*
"Thanks Pat! I owe you one," *she said shortly then hung up.*
*After a quick change of clothes, she grabbed the faxed papers and went in search of Bruce. *

*At that moment, Bruce was in his office, going over the paperwork that the manor somehow managed to generate despite it's move in location. It was the strangest thing ever, but he wasn't going to question the fact that the old routine was still in motion.
He was also thinking over recents developments--Lois Lane being in Paris, the appearance of Joker and what he'd perpetrated while Bruce had been stuck in a timewarp. He felt a flare of something close to wrath thinking about that, but had to shove that feeling down--getting royally pissed off wouldn't help him think of a plan of attack*

((But getting royally pissed off does make him unbelieveably HOT. He was gorgeous in American Psycho. Creepy but hot.))
*Lois knocked and waited a moment before going in.*
"You're a hard man to find," *she said, slightly breathlessly.* "I think I literally looked everywhere but this place is ridiculous."

((I have the feeling I'm the only one that hasn't seen that movie yet))
*He chuckled*
"This place can be a maze if you don't know it well."
*He folded his hands on the desktop*
"So, what's up?"

((It's on youtube, if you're interested.))
*She smiled brightly before handing him a Manila envelope with a neatly stapled packet inside.*
"As promised. I had a friend of a friend bend a few rules and privacy clauses at the census bureau for a list that thorough. There seems to be a lot of Rochelles in this city but not many Rachels. I highlighted the few that were on there."

*He took the envelope, flipping through it as Lois talked*
"Only a very few Rachels...in Paris."
*He pursed his lips thoughtfully*
"Should've figured she'd be here."
*There was a pause*
"Thank you. I appreciate your help."

"Don't mention it. You're letting me crash here. I don't mind a little secretarial work."
*She took a moment to think.*
"I could set something up, if you want," *she offered.*

"Well...it's a big house, Miss Lane. Can't let it just collect dust.
Wouldn't want you to go out of your way...but if you could...?"
