There really wasn't any point anymore, was there?
It had been five years now. He'd thought the pain would eventually go away, but it had proved remarkably, horribly tenacious. Every night it happened all over again. He'd come home again in his mind, and find Lilliane all over again, her head torn open by the bullet, her skirts dragged up around her hips, her lower parts bruised and torn, and Amelie bleeding in her cradle.
And then he would see Alexandre again as the hangman put the noose around his neck and the crowd jeered, and the wooden thud as the trapdoor unlatched and the snap as Alexandre's body plummeted through the opening.
Five years ago.
He was leaning over the edge of the bridge now, and the water was white and surging from the recent rain, and he realized that he would be with Lilliane and Amelie again very soon. All he had to do was let go.

Crowley was walking the streets of Paris on his own. The rain didn't bother him. He never got wet. He was crossing the bridge when he saw a man standing on the edge about to jump off. He considered him for a moment. Lost souls were always the easiest to corrupt. Maybe he could get a bit of work done tonight.
"Hey!" he yelled, running over to him. "You don't want to do that. Give me your hand. Give me your heart!"
((Titanic, WHAT?))

"No," said Stephen.

"Come on, you don't want to jump into that river."

"Yes, I do. Now bugger off."

The demon crossed his arms. "Alright, you can jump, but I really don't want to have to go in after you."

"I don't care," Stephen retorted hoarsely.

"Okay." Crowley walked over to Stephen's side and looked down at the water. "It's probably going to be freezing. Not cold enough to kill you, but enough that it hurts."

He only glared in response.

"Well, get on with it. I don't have all night, and I'd like to get this over with."

"What do you care?"

He shrugged. "I can't just let you die. Now that I've seen what you're about to do, letting you kill yourself would be a crime on my part. I'm involved now."

Not caring, he flung himself over the edge.

Crowley threw off his jacket and dove in after the man. He dragged him to the surface and onto the shore of the Seine.
"You're an idiot," he muttered, shivering.

"I didn't want to be saved!" Stephen protested, pushing Crowley back into the water.
