Clara shined the anachronistic flashlight down the tunnel.
"Wow, it's so dark in here," she whispered in awe.

"I thought you said this would be fun," Little Red mumbled, glancing around. "I don't like the dark very much."

"Well, there's a lake with a mermaid thingy in it, or we might meet the Opera Ghost. You never know!"

"You never know because it's too dark to see anything, right?" She said unhappily. "I mean, we could be walking past wolves or bakers or bread or something and we wouldn't notice!"

She shined the flashlight under her chin to make herself look spooky. "There are no bakers or wolves below the Opera. There are only the Ghost and his servants," she said forbodingly. Giggling, she shined the light back on the tunnel.

"A ghost?" She asked, a little quieter. "Is it a nice ghost?"

She thought about this for a second. "Well, it depends on whether you've done something against his wishes. I'm sure he wouldn't hurt two little girls, though."

"You're positive?" She asked, as she stumbled over something in the dark. "I mean, absolutely positively absolutely positive?"

She hesitated. "Yeah, I'm positive," she lied. Where was the fun if there was no danger? Whatever the Ghost could do, it wouldn't be as bad as being locked in a tower.

*Julian noted the two girls with a bemused interest. With a cat-like grace he slipped up behind them stealthily. His voice was low, between a hiss and a purr.*
"Hello, little girls...what's your rush...?"

Clara jumped at the sound of the strange man's voice and turned around. "Oh, no rush sir," she said politely. "We were just exploring."

*Julian's lips twisted into a menacing smile.*
"But aren't you frightened? Down here all alone...something...bad might befall you. You know that this place is haunted, no?"

She smiled bravely and nodded. "That's the point. We're here looking for the Opera Ghost!" She paused. "Are you him?"

*Julian's smile grew more threatening.*
"I don't know...perhaps. What does he look like?"

"Well, I hear he's really tall and has yellow skin and no nose and deep, black, empty eye sockets that glow in the dark and he smells like he's dead and hangs people," she babbled in one breath.
