*Christine sat on the edge of the roof and tried not to cry*

*Kirk walked out onto the roof, seeking the stars he so missed. The lights of Paris rendered them dim and unrecognizable. So long surrounded by them as the Enterprise's only backdrop, he found the sight reassuring. Like home.
But away and too his left he heard a familiar noise. A woman, on the edge of tears. And the edge of the roof. he strode over quickly, decisively, as he did everything.*
"Miss?" *he called.* "Are you in some kind of trouble?"

*Christine started at the sound of a man's voice. It was so warm and brave, at first she thought it was Raoul. But the accent was American...Upon turning, she saw a hadsome man in a tight shirt. Perhaps she shoud have been afraid- eveyone knew what sort of things happened to girls at the Opera!- but something about him seemed gentle.*
"Forgive me", *she said, blushing.* "I was just...taking in the view."

((Canadian, woman! Oh, wait. Forgot Kirk's from S.F.))
*Kirk nodded.*
"I never tire of looking at the stars. Always a piece of home, wherever I go. Of course, they're not to numerous, here. But there's something about how they twinkle, here on Earth, that reminds me of being a boy."
*He started from his reverie.*
"I'm sorry, Miss. My name's James Kirk."

"Christine Daae`."
*She smiled sweetly*
"You sound as if you've traveled quite a bit. I've never been outside of Europe."

"Christine," *he said softly, caressing the word. A far cry she was from Christine Chapel. Nice enough girl, but so hung up on the Vulcan.*
"That's... a beautiful name. Yes, I've traveled. Most of my life, in face, seems to have been spent on one ship or another."

((I pwn Christine Chapel.))
"Really?"
*Christine's interest shone in her eyes. Raoul had been in the navy, but had never cared to talk about it.*
"Are you a sailor?"

((Honey, nearly everyone does.))
*He smiled lopsidedly.*
"In a manner of speaking. Actually, I'm a captain. The captain. Of the USS... Enterprise."

((True. I'm a Chekov girl, myself.))
"A captain? You must lead a fascinating life."
*She laughed*
"I'm only a singer."

((Really? Man, his hair upsets me.))
"'Only a singer?'" *he chided.* "Hardly. I've led men and women into uncharted territories, faced my inner demons and come out alive, but I could never do what you do. Your work... is what we keep fighting for."

((I think he's cute. He looks like one of the Beatles. Plus, I could never stand in the way of Spock and McCoy's true love.))
"By that, I suppose you mean the arts. Humanity. And yes, music is important to me."
*She blushed slightly*
"And we certainly have had a few demons around here."

((That's why I don't like him; he was stuck in there 2nd season so the fangirls would switch over from the Monkees or whatever. Give me Sulu any day. Damn, shirtless fencing man. You are hot.))
"Demons? On Earth?" *Kirk asked, surprised.* "I trust you mean that figuratively."

((Sulu is cute- I loved when his evil alter ego sexually harassed Uhura. When he came out, my dad said his childhood was now warped.))
"Somewhat."
*She decided not to tell him about Erik- not yet, anyway. After all, she hardly knew him.*
"There are always rumors, sir. Whether you credit them or not, stories of ghosts and vampires have become quite common."

((There was an awesome joke at the Shatner roast, where someone asked if the doors to his closet went "whoosh!"))
*Kirk smiled indulgently.*
"Usually they're fairy tales; legends based on quite ordinary facts when people don't understand their world. That's what Spock would say, anyway. I don't know... I've seen too much to dismiss anything out of hand. Except for tyranny and small-mindedness, of course."

"Of course."
Perhaps he was right about the vampires being legend. As for the ghost...he was mortal, but it seemed sometimes as if he came from another world.
"Spock...is he your First Mate?"
