"Susanna...you force my hand"
Those words kept repeating themselves in her head. Was Alexander right? Words of Raoul's "evil twin" and strange people eyeing him made her question things...
Susanna sighed and went closer to the edge of the roof. The chilly air felt nice as it swept across her face. Her long, dark hair fluttered behind her as she slightly adjusted her shawl.
She looked at her wedding ring, "I'm married." She muttered quietly to herself. She loved Raoul but something...something felt awkward...

*Nadir ran up the final few steps two at a time as he neared the door leading to the roof. It swung open and he caught a glimpse of Alexander's little dark-haired friend standing alone. A shadow of something fell across his face for a moment and he turned to leave the same way he had come.*

Susanna quickly turned around when she realized someone had come on the roof. "You don't have to go..." She said quietly.

*Nadir stopped and after a moment he dared to raise his eyes to meet hers.* "I think it best that I do, Mademoiselle," *he said quietly, tipping his hat to her.*

"No--" She ran to where he was, "--Er, I mean, please stay..." she said shyly with a small smile.

*Nadir said nothing, but he did not leave. His golden eyes betrayed nothing of what he felt as he simply watched the girl with steady solemnity.*

((Damn u n ur writing skillz. )) Susanna smiled a bit wider, "I wanted to thank you for the drink. Maybe we can do it again some time soon...just, um, not that much; the hangover was murder." She laughed. He didn't say anything, "...A-are you alright...?"

((Say what now? He didn't even say anything! )) *Nadir breathed deeply for a moment then focused his gaze on the city below him as her laughter settled on the silence around him and seemed to warm the air.* "You need not--ought not--to thank me. It was irresponsible of me to force that much--any--drink on you. I should not have treated a gentlewoman thus, and I apologize for my actions," *he said in a low tone.*

((Er...That's why...*nervous smile*))
Susanna wrapped her shawl tighter and shivered a little as she looked down at the grand city, "There's no need to apologize..." She looked at him and smiled.

((*grabs & shakes* speak plain, woman! Too late at night and too deep in homework to be figuring out these cryptic comments!))
*Nadir looked up in time to catch the fading moments of her smile, and even so, the force of it struck him like a physical blow. He shut his eyes against the breathless suspended pain that clung like a cold sweat and clenched his teeth for a moment before he recovered enough of his senses to shrug easily and wag his dark head from side to side.* "Even so, I apologize just the same. It was intolerable of me. I shall never forgive myself in any case."

Susanna gave a soft chuckle, "Why so hard on yourself, monsieur?"

*Nadir felt his core go cold and steeled himself to behave in the slightly rakish, throw-away manner he was accustomed to presenting at the opera as a man of leisure with few cares as opposed to a man with a great many concerns.* "There is no one else to keep me in check, mademoiselle," *he said with a careless shrug.* "Except, perhaps...our friend Alexander." *He gritted his teeth slightly and cocked his head to one side as he gazed at Susanna from under hooded eyelids.* "He was not impressed with my behaviour the other night. In the light of day and the clarity of sobriety I can see that he was right and I am none too taken with my lack of gentlemanly breeding, either."

"Alexander..." She paused for a moment, "He sometimes cares too much--not that I mind." Susanna smiled at the thought of him. "He's naturaly worried about many things. I'll let him know that I didn't mind the drinks soon. I do not wish for him to hold some sort of grudge against you for taking me out for a night of freedom."

*Nadir smirked to himself.* "Freedom?" *he murmured in an incredulous tone before he swung his gaze back to meet her eyes.* "Is that what you think that was?"

Susanna looked at Nadir, "...I do. Brief moments of bliss. I believe that constitutes as freedom, no?"
