Johannes turned her quickly toward the elevator, before she could see the doorman slide from his chair and hit the ground.
As the doors closed behind them, something howled outside.

"Myself included," she said with a wry smile. The smile was unintentional, and felt surprisingly good, but it made her feel her exhaustion. Her grip tightened on his hand, thinking about how much longer she might be there, so she bade herself not to think.

The elevator was both slow and loud, and clanked steadily as it drew them upwards.
