She released his hand abruptly and folded her arms across her chest, tucking her hands under her elbows. But she fixed her eyes on the sight below her and refused to show him any distress, or anger, she thought - though both of them chased each other in her eyes, no matter how firmly she lifted her chin and stared.

She did not want to address the latter part of what he said. She didn't want to think on it.
"What about my fate?" she asked, eyes flashing.

He smiled faintly.
"Imagine if you and I were the last two people on Earth. It would be exquisite."
