“I know, right?” she said, beginning to laugh too. “Oh, my God- we have to show him A Christmas Carol, he looks just like the Ghost of Christmas Present-“

"Is that another opera?"

“I mean, I bet there’s one- it’s the story of a miserable, mean old man who doesn’t care about anyone or anything but his money who gets visited by a bunch of ghosts over Christmas Eve, and they drive in how much harm he’s done everybody around him and how he’ll doom his soul unless he changes his ways and learns to care about other people. It’s really popular, there’s like a million versions-“

"Oh, cool," said Thor, surprised Midgard had something that sounded so brutal and managed to be endlessly popular during a season that seemed to be primarily constructed around affection and gift-giving.

Megan laughed in earnest.
“Yeah, it’s harsh but it’s so good. A lot of people think it’s just about the fact that he doesn’t celebrate Christmas, but it’s more than that. He underpays his clerk and the ghost tells him straight up that the clerk’s little son will die if he doesn’t change his ways, and he even throws his own nasty words back in his face. It’s like, the most emphatic story about the obligations people have to each other ever.”

"There are a lot of moral lectures in this holiday, especially given that it seems mostly to be about buying things and drinking."

“The buying things is supposed to be a way of showing appreciation for other people. Pretty sure the drinking is just leftover ‘hey-the-sun-is-dying-let’s-get-wasted’.”

By now the song had ended, and so had a moment of announcer chatter before a new one began. It seemed to distract Megan for a moment- in contrast to the last song, this one was more of a lament over poor romantic decisions made the previous Christmas season.
"That's the other thing," she said. "Really sad songs mixed in super casually with the rest of them."

"...er, that's all Midgardian radio," Thor said, as if he had to inform her, and wanted to do so gently.

"Well, yeah, but still," Megan began, though it was hard not to smile at his utter earnestness.
It was actually hard not to smile around him in general.
"It's just sadder putting it in this context, you know? Maybe it's just that this one's so wistful- he's not angry, he's just kind of sad."

Thor squinted for a moment while he listened to it.
A crowded room, friends with tired eyes I'm hiding from you, and your soul of ice My god, I thought you were someone to rely on Me? I guess I was a shoulder to cry on
He swallowed, and reached for the dial.
"Well, we can't have you crying again when we get the tree," he said, attempting to find something other than Christmas music. Not knowing what constituted Christmas music and not, he stopped on a channel playing an uplifting choral arrangement of Joy To The World, which seemed pretty upbeat to him.

"What, do I cry too much for you or something?"
