This whole set-up was getting dangerous, and not because Loki was a cocky little shit with those knives of his. They were starting to enjoy each other's company, by Odin's beard. The only positive side effect Fandral could see from this was the fact that it had become much easier to invent stories to the others to justify their spending time together. Now it was not a lie for Fandral, disgruntled, to say that perhaps he could see some benefit to time with Loki, even though he vowed that his main purpose was in privately observing him - keeping an eye on him, as it were.
This wasn't at all untrue, either. Fandral did keep his eyes on Loki when they were alone.
Also, many of his specific details were true now: he and Loki did lose track of the time in talking about various things, or in getting street fare like hot dogs (not actual dog, it turned out) or whatever the Midgardians called them, or in watching whatever was on television. Loki knew a lot more than Fandral did about present-day Midgardian culture, but Fandral knew more than he did about it from some point in the past, he wasn't entirely certain anymore.
This was not any of it to suggest, through vigorous denial or otherwise, that Fandral and Loki were becoming sentimental. They did the deed and then they got far away from each other. It was just that as much as they didn't want to touch anymore after the act was over and done with, they didn't seem to want to leave the room either. Sex always turned into sitting on entirely different pieces of furniture that was still infuriatingly in the same room and talking.
Loki was attempting to explain mortal television to him, or at least, the narrative of one particular show, but it seemed culturally alien not only to Asgard, but also, even among mortals, to those outside of a very specific city, and Fandral was having difficulty following. It seemed that it was a serialized tale, and Loki was damned frustrating in his ability to leap from describing an arcing storyline and that of one particular serial episode, and Fandral couldn't differentiate, usually because Loki wasn't bothering.
He was attempting to berate him for this when they heard the key turn in the lock and the door open. Fandral would have leapt immediately to his feet to give the shocked female fiancée a courteous bow, but he had a full cup of coffee and he stood still and acquired a guilty-dog expression because he did not want to upset it into his lap.
