The September afternoon was settling into the mid-sixties, pleasantly bright without the harshness of high summer, and most of the cafés had not yet taken their outdoor seating areas back inside for the season.
It was a Saturday, which meant Adrian didn't have to go to work. In his defense, he had only gone in for five hours and was done for the day. He was carrying a small package when he greeted Teja by the door with a kiss on the cheek and a wry ruffle of the hair.
"Mm. Hello, you're looking lovely..."

Johannes was but a looming day dream, some threat in some deep corner of her heart she longed to face, but not today. If Johannes was a dream borne of fitful sleep then Adrian was clearly the sun, dashing the threats of nighttime to pieces.
"I'm glad you still like it," she said, shy but in seemingly high spirits. "What's in the box?"

"Two, please," he said to the hostess who approached them, menus in hand. As they stepped inside, he began taking off his jacket and sunglasses and dropped his hat onto the stand between their booth and the one next to it.
It had been another two weeks since they had returned from California, and Adrian's face was just the slightest touch more drawn than it had been the last time they saw one another. His hair was again newly trimmed, and consequentially more sandy and silvery than before.
"Well," he said, "I thought I would run this by you before I brought it to him. I had the toy people knock this out over the last week. What do you think of it?"
Adrian- his prosthetic hand undisguised now that they were in New York- pried up a tab on the box and carefully pulled out a small painted prototype figure dressed mostly in green and black. He lifted it up to let her see the pointy little plastic likeness of Loki's face, surrounded by sculpted billows of wavy hair.
"We're not sure about the helmet yet," he said. "There's obviously concern that it looks rather demonic..."

Teja ignored him, taking the action figure from Adrian's hands in her two and staring at it open-mouthed.
"It's Loki!"

Adrian laughed.
"Well, yes," he said. "That's the prototype figure."

She didn't seem to hear him, though, holding the figure close and turning it over in her hands, looking at all the details.

"If he approves it, we can probably have them in stores by Christmas, though I think we should probably wait until we've had a chance to add him into the cartoon. That would be spring, at the earliest."

"I wanted to ask if you think he'll approve of it or if there's anything to change before we approach him," Adrian responded warily.

The action figure had a slightly more masculine build - broader in the shoulders, with more bulk to the arms and legs - in keeping with what it was. But the build was still noticeably lean. She thought this was a good enough balance between what Loki wanted to be and what he was that Loki would probably be flattered.
"I think certain things about the armor might be important to him - the vambraces, for instance, but I don't know about the helmet - but I think this will do," she said cautiously.

"The vambraces match the helmet, from what I've seen," Adrian said. "And the last thing he needs is for people to look up why he's wearing a horse's head."
Adrian took a sip of complimentary water before adding cautiously, "That is why, yes?"
