Loki had urged Teja to move with him in as many moods as Loki was capable of experiencing - which was a great number. He had in blissed-out lovestruck delight toyed with the topic and in the height of mania cajoled her without giving her a moment to think about it or even speak; in thoughtfulness he'd come to the conclusion logically and pleaded with quiet urgency; in the depths of depression he had begged her to leave as though their relationship depended on it, and his life on that. And she had been exhausted and frustrated and always, again and again, said no.
But he'd always tried to move out of the city.
It turned out moving and staying in the city was actually a whole lot of fun.
Walking home was Teja's least favorite thing. From the outside the building looked uninhabited and filthy, and she didn't like walking in the area, it gave her jitters. But once inside the floor was as sturdy as any, the walls as thick and secure, and better, moreso - because to stand outside, the place was charmed to repel people emotionally, to look as unsafe and unpleasant as possible, to prevent anyone from exploring out of curiosity and discovering that it was merely a glamour, and the place had been repaired and furnished into a beautiful, cozy little home for two (plus one robot. David had not seemed to be nuts about the idea of moving, but he was so often out of the house anyway, and the prospect of a garden magically enchanted to be undetectable was really good for his dope business).
Teja had never been happier - with Loki, that was. She had developed a bad problem with panic attacks, and while she was trying to find a new job now that she was unemployed, she didn't feel that she had the emotional and mental stability to do another retail job, which was, after all, the only thing she was qualified for.
Of course, things being what they were between herself and Loki, she wasn't stuck relying on him as her sole social network, either. Things were quite platonic between them, but she was frequently out with Adrian, a situation she privately felt was even more unusual for him than for her. She liked his company, though, and was overwhelmingly flattered by the fact that he was spending his time with her - although she couldn't say she understood why.
