Clark sighed "You'll have to forgive me, returning the way I did has left me a little- harsh."

"I know the feeling," Loki said, winking conspiratorially.

Clark returned the wink with a look that just said don't even.

"The void is a harsh mistress," Loki sighed.

Clark continued staring "Your turn. The scepter."

"Ah. Yes. Well. First of all, you must understand that I've done... well, a few things I'm not especially proud of-"

Clark could relate, though he doubted Loki was talking about causing mass destruction of a populated area- on more than one occasion.
He allowed Loki to continue.

"-and I'm really very sorry about that-"

"But... I wasn't, either. This is going to sound mad, I know-"

He smiled grimly.
"Though it makes much more sense if he's the splinter, I imagine-"

"That scepter was made for the other one."

"The scepter reads your DNA, in a matter of speaking, and calls out to you-" he looked Loki directly in the eye "-so you go to it. You were able to resist it then" he knew what his face read and he once again tried and failed to control it. "Does the parasite know what it is? Does she even seem to care?"
