Campaigning

His cigar tasted like dirt, he smoked it anyway. He'd had cancer once, it wasn't something he was afraid of anymore.
He leaned back in his chair, at some country club in Gotham, surrounded by rich men in expensive coats, complaining about what they believed were the true ills of society: race and taxes.
Lex didn't expect to see Bruce Wayne here. He was too much of a liberal to sit in a room like this (he'd sit in that country club in a few weeks), It wouldn't matter either way, Gotham's golden boy was locked up in his mansion in Paris and hadn't been seen for months.
He didn't care for these men as it was, their set belief that the evils of America were being perpetrated by "urban youth" left a bad taste in his mouth. The only race Lex cared about was the human race and placing the blame for the issues on any human didn't feel right to him. He was also aware, that from a scientific standpoint racism was absolutely ridiculous. He understood that his own speciesist views when it came to meta humans were hypocritical in this regard, but it didn't bother him.
Hypocrisy was the least of his problems.
Here amongst the neck ties and the blowhards, he found his constituency. He hated them, but they represented the big money of America and he was campaigning under the Republican banner after all. He had to give them what they wanted occasionally.
It wouldn't matter much when the world was his, a thought that sounded more and more likely than ever before.
He had a 10 year plan and that included invading Canada and Mexico and integrating them in to the states within 5 years. The modern world believed they'd seen the last of men like Alexander the Great and Ghengis Khan, but he'd prove them wrong. He'd follow the Geneva Conventions and create war proper, but it would be difficult when invading.
He'd be seen as a monster for a short time, but Lex was the king of slur campaigns. He'd more than once turned the world against Superman and this time he'd turn the world on each other, he'd sweep in with his army and supermen, save the day, then when he had all that he wanted, he'd destroy their reputations in a wave of his hand.
It wasn't fool proof, Lex wasn't so egotistical to believe his plan was perfect, but so far it was going fairly well.
