Instead of heading back inside immediately Dan decided instead he'd do some exploring closer to the house.
He wasn't jogging anymore, but instead climbing up a large rock near the waters edge to get a better look out on to the ocean as well as the rest of the island.
As he got to the top he made a 360 turn slowly to take it all in. He doubted the others would have the time or the patience to actually appreciate the beauty of it so he'd do it for them.
Turning toward the water a second time he noticed someone walking down the beach, looking a little frazzled. Counting the people on the island in his head, then counting the number of females with short hair it wasn't exactly difficult for him to realize who it was.
Sitting down on the rock he waited for her to get closer.

When she came in to clear view Dan immediately climbed down and headed toward her, concern written across his face "Are you all right?"

He gave her a once over.
Her shoe was missing, her dress was torn and her make up was smeared. If this was anybody else, anywhere else in the world Dan would have taken her for a victim of some sort of heinous crime. He reached out without touching her and found his hand pointing toward her cheek.
Something was missing.
Her scar.
He shook his head gently and found himself shaking a little, there was something very wrong here. "Megan, do you want to go back to the house?"

He gently wrapped his arms around her and sighed.
"I know."
He was beginning too feel the same way.

He laughed softly, allowing only his chest to move.
"That's a very good question."
They weren't all bad, they just took some... patience. Dan looked down at her, his worry evident.

He glanced down at his watch "Still morning, I was out jogging-"

"I didn't want to go back to the house" he admitted "but maybe I should have."
He was still holding her and honestly it just reminded him of how much he missed his friend.

"I'm glad I'm good for something" he smiled.

Dan held her as she cried, rocking her gently side to side. He was silent, watchful and gentle.

"I'm sorry-" she blurted. "About everything-"

"No no, you have nothing to apologize for."

He looked down "You had every right to be, I should be the one apologizing I'm a pathetic coward who does more harm than good these days. You know what they say about the road to hell after all, I should have been there for you-"

He squeezed her gently "To who?"

"Nina?"
What had happened while he was out?
"Nina is a strong woman, she will understand. It's okay."

"Oh no no shh" he pushed a small hair out of her face.
He wasn't always so forgiving, facing his own internalized self hatred and having only just realized he was blaming Adrian for things that he was only minimally involved in were good examples of such.
These weren't things on his mind at the moment. He only wanted Megan to feel comfortable with him, he wanted to be there for her like he hadn't been.
