Sif met Loki's look with a clouded expression and nodded her head, then separated herself from the group.

Volstagg spread his arms. "We did not know what to expect, so we are free to stay for very long indeed!"
Fandral laughed along with him, wondering how easily this was going to work out.
It explained a lot that Thor was here communing with Loki as though nothing had happened, and moreso - Thor looked unrecognizeable in his Midgardian attire, and none of them could be entirely surprised that he would go native again, but Loki looked moreso. Somehow it didn't surprise Fandral that he'd survived the black hole - Loki was slippery, as usual. But that he could come out of it better than he'd gone in seemed unlikely.
"Your brother, Loki? Where is your place?"

Thor smiled on the surface, but he could tell the others were resistant, or, at least, Sif was.
Sif had very lightly made offers of her devotion to him long ago, and their friendship had not survived his gentle refusal entirely unscathed. Her reasons for mistrusting Loki had always been greater than any of the others, and Thor did not want her to be uncomfortable. From the way she returned his look though he could surmise that to approach her would only hurt her stiff pride, so he let her be and allowed her to continue to make her own judgments.
"I am so glad to hear it," he offered Volstagg. "Please, come to the kitchen - I will make you a sandwich!"
He was certain that the rest of the party could overhear Volstagg's loud assertions that he would indeed like a sandwich, but what was it? Hopefully the sooner they were feasting and happy the better integrated they would all be. Thor was not so naive to believe that everything could return to the shape it had once had, he had learned otherwise in thirty years of it, but it could regain a good shape.

Loki had already eaten, so he leaned on the counter, arms and legs crossed, with a nonchalant grin.
"There's a theater beside the house, you know," he commented. "They ought to pay you four- the Bifrost burn on the pavement is going to draw them up a great deal of business..."

"A theater! Charming. Have you seen them? I am very curious about Midgardian arts."
Volstagg chimed in, "Have they public banquet halls?"

Thor regretted to inform Volstagg that they did not. Volstagg took it rather well, all things considered.
"I had not thought of that, Loki," he said warmly. "I am pleased to have helped them even so accidentally. I like to hear them rehearse and hate to think that such talented and dedicated performers may soon be out of business."

"Good things have always sprung up in your steps, have they not?" Loki said amiably.

Sif rolled her eyes to prevent herself from doing anymore than that in her sudden anxiety and anger. She should have known this was just another of his tricks. And Odin knew what his plan was this time. Unable to take any more of it she left the room without making anything of it, just needing to cool her heels as well as she could. She found a narrow, cramped staircase and sat herself upon it, trying to work through the best course of action in her mind.
In the past she would have gone to someone else for advice on this, but that someone else had been Thor. Now she must handle everything on her own.

"I believe here on Midgard, they call it karma," said Fandral in a tone so bright it was obviously a warning.

Realizing he must play peacekeeper, Thor smiled hastily and said, "Then the honor must go to Miss Elness, for the kindness of allowing me to take up residence here."
He finished preparing Volstagg's sub and moved onto Fandral's.. He could bring Sif hers when the others were eating, and then perhaps in quiet tones sexplain to her how much had changed for Loki here on Midgard, as it had once changed for Thor.

Loki glanced after Sif with a mild expression.
"I haven't already ruined the day, have I?"

"As ever, Loki," said Fandral airly, just at the moment of Thor handing him a sub. He looked pleased and even surprised by its existence. "Ah! And now your brother has saved it. I missed this pattern."

Loki gave him a halfhearted scowl and reached for the stack of hair elastics Megan had brought down the day before after her haircut, taking another one to secure the upper part of his hair back from his face.
"Things are different now, I can assure you."

"What have you been up to, Loki?" asked Fandral around sandwich. He was genuinely curious. "It's been a very long time."

"Only a year on my end," he countered.
Loki stopped and considered how best to explain things in a way that wouldn't turn the rest of them against him as well. Sif was a lost cause, but frankly, he knew better than to hope otherwise to begin with. Whatever chance at respect he could have received from her was thrown away alongside the piles of shorn-off hair he'd left behind in her bed.
He paced a few feet away and leaned on the refrigerator.
"Truth be told, I had intentions of meddling in Midgardian politics and using this to win the people of this city to my worship."
He glanced at his nails.
"Fortunately, that foolishness was forced out of my system before I had a chance to cause any real damage."
