He'd been thinking a lot, lately. About being Iron Man, about Jess, Pepper, how they all came together in their different ways. A band of misfits fitting in with each other. But one thing above them all had been weighing on his mind lately: his relationship with Jess. News reporters--and even Pepper--had teased or hinted about him marrying her, and he'd always deflected it in some way. They always seemed to be too busy, there was always time, you see, next month...or the next...
But there was no reason to delay, and if he had to be honest, he was being a bit chicken about asking. Tony Stark the perpetual bachelor, always with a girl on his arm but never the same one for long--until Jess, that is. Their relationship was the longest one he'd ever held, and it was the only one he'd felt like never leaving so. So, wouldn't it make sense...?
And this was why he was now standing on the balcony, watching the twinkling lights of New York all around him, waiting for Jess to get home. In his pocket was the one bit of jewelry that nobody would've ever guessed he'd buy: an engagement ring.

The elevator was playing a quiet version of "I wanna Know What Love is" by Foreigner. If she didn't know Jarvis was listening, she most likely would have belted it.
She was two days away from the Met exhibit and her head was pounding. She'd been in meetings all day with the board that oversaw events at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and spent most of it either angry, bored or attempting to quiet the all too real voice in her head.
As she exited the elevator she called out "Jarvis, you there?"
"Yes Ms. Cartwright?"
"How are you doing tonight?"
"I am well, is there anything I can do for you?"
"Yes, for the love of god start me up a bath and make sure the lights are down low. Because I've had a migraine all day." She made a beeline for the kitchen and grabbed a glass of water before pulling two bottles of pills from her purse. "Tony home yet?"
"Mr. Stark is awaiting you on the balcony."
"He's awaiting me?" She laughed and took the pills "All right, just keep that bath warm okay?"
"Yes mam."
Wrapping a small throw over her shoulders, she headed out to the balcony "Hey stuff and fluff."

He turned around, smiling. She looked tired, but it seemed like the museum had been running her ragged for days now.
"Hey. Is the museum still being a slave driver?"

"Board of directors of the Metropolitan Museum of Art and their absolute inability to take any criticism" she leaned against the rail and looked out in to the city "I can deal with the crust of the British Museum, they at least listen before laughing in my face. These guys have their blackberry's shoved so far up their asses-" she sighed "-I didn't even want to do this."

He pulled her into his arms, kissing her.
"My poor Jess. Maybe I can help you feel better."

She leaned back and squinted almost comically "Week long spa retreat in Hawaii?"

He chuckled.
"Well, we could do that, too. But I was also thinking of this--"
He pulled a ring out of his pocket, offering it up to her.
"Figured we ought to get married sometime."
((It can look like whatever ya want. I figure he'd know better than I would what kind of ring you'd like. xD))

Jess looked down, then back up to him, then back to the ring.
It was hard to say what she was thinking, her face was going through a complete range of emotions.
"I-I-uh" she laughed "Christ."
The ring was spectacular, yet simple. She didn't even want to count how many carats just the center diamond was. She'd never even owned a piece of real jewelry, even after starting to date Tony, all of her earrings were still steel.

"Sometime in the future. No rush."
He'd had explosions go off around him, and yet this was the most nerve-wracking moment he'd ever been in.

She stammered for another moment before kissing him.
Having kept Tony this long was a feat in and of itself. She was sure it would be a whirlwind romance that would end in both of them finding other people and leaving with a We'll always have Paris.
Never did she imagine he'd want to settle down, let alone propose.
Her hesitation came from the fact that she expected to be dead within a year. Queen D. would be taking over, there was no stopping her now, she'd have complete control. Jess only hoped that those she made promise would hold their end of the bargain and end her before too many people got hurt.

He kissed her back heatedly, relief flooding through him. He'd had similar thoughts to Jess', and it hadn't helped that newspapers were constantly speculating about whether or not he was going to pop the question, since they'd been together so long.
"We could honeymoon in Hawaii."

She laughed, slightly out of breath "I really don't care where we go."

"The moon. All right, maybe not the moon, but someday you could pull that off."

"I'm afraid of space, probably not a good idea anyway" she buried her face in to his chest and laughed.
((Which is funny because she way taller than RDJ, thank god it's Tony XD))

((LOL.))
"I don't know if I like or not." He said. "I've had a mixed reception."
