Nathan hosed down his suit for the day, but he knew no matter how long he washed, no matter how hard he scrubbed it would never be clean.
He dropped the hose to the floor and slowly turned off the water.
Watching the coat drip dry he saw flashes of red, images of the blood that sprayed across it no more than an hour before. He closed his eyes but they were still there. It was a girl, couldn't have been much older than Shilo, she'd defaulted on payments for her liver and her heart. Nathan had taken both.
She hadn't ran, she'd stood defiant, he'd killed her in her own apartment.
He rubbed his eyes with the backs of his hands, mentally scrubbing the girls screaming face out of his mind. At least for the time being.
Within a few minutes he was out of the fireplace. He slowed at the staircase looking up, listening for the sounds of a television, the only real view in to the outside world Shilo had. There was nothing. Maybe she was sleeping. He slowly made it up the stairs, making sure to keep as quiet as he could. When he got to Shilo's room he listened carefully for any noise, there was nothing, it was, unusually quiet.
He removed the key from his pocket and slowly opened the door.
At first the lump on the bed looked natural, but he as he began to close the door he froze.
It wasn't breathing, rushing over to the bed he grabbed the lump to find it nothing more than clothes and a stuffed animals. "SHILO?!" He bellowed "SHILO?!!"
